change video decoder deinterlace options on fly

Hi,

Is it possible to change the Nvidia Purevideo deinterlace options from within GB-PVR during captured liveTV playback?

The reason I ask is because when watching One World of Motorsport there must be different video formats (ie. I can watch the Indy League at Nvidia deinterlace default setting but need to adjust to VMR vertical stretch when watching the V8 supercars)

With Zoomplayer I can access the decoder from right-click context menus. (One reason why it would be great if ZP was integrated into GB-PVR as a playback option).

There is no need to change de-interlace settings for Broadcast TV because it is always interlaced, therefore you always need to de-interlace using the best possible de-interlacing technique, which is spatial-temporal pixel-adaptive de-interlacing (aka hardware de-interlacing) if supported by your video card.

On the Purevideo decoder, the following settings will use the best de-interlacing method available on your computer:
hardware acceleration ticked
de-interlace control: automatic
de-interlace mode: VMR default
VMR (9 or 7) renderer

The issue is not the with live TV playback but recorded TV playback. And only with certain types of programmes; namely those with fast moving action, like live sport. And it seems to vary.
I have tried using fDDShow deinterlacing but it adds a delay into the liveTV which puts the audio out of sync & I cannot get rid of it.
One thing which seems consistent with both playback in GB-PVR & Zoomplayer, if I use FF &/or skip controls then the stutter seems to alternate: Use either of the controls & it appears; use them again & it disappears :confused: But not always: one on; one off.

No, its not, unless you're lucky enough that the decoder being used has a tray icon which allows you to dynamically change this.

I see no need to build functionality like this directly into GB-PVR.

Analogue TV capture card (PVR150, ATI550 etc) MPEG2 recordings are always interlaced. My comments above still apply.

Please describe the problem you are you experiencing with "VMR Default"

VMR Vertical stretch (BOB de-interlacing) is very bad because it takes each interlaced field (2 fields make-up a full frame), which has only half the number of scan lines and stretches it vertically to full-screen size, then repeats the process for the other interlaced field. As you can see, it halves your vertical resolution, and the 2 fields overlap each other on the screen which blurs the image.

Am I, then, the only person in New Zealand with this deinterlacing issue. My specs are pretty common.

What csy says above is correct. I cant think of any reason you would need to change this setting during normal use.

Can you post a screenshot of the picture when its not correct? I want to see what exactly we're talking about.

It will have to wait a bit as the only programme it seems to happen with is played on Sundays & I have deleted last week's episode.

Also, could using Windows media player 9 contribute towards this? Because I've just thought that it would probably not be using the Purevideo decoders but their own, proprietry ones. Would this be true? And how do I force WMP10(which I've installed this afternoon) to use them?

The gbpvr.exe-native.log will tell you which decoders it is using. WMP9 doesnt come with any MPEG2 decoders, so unlikely to be playing a part in this problem.

Just so you know, and because you may have fiddled with this setting when trying to resolve your problem, you should leave the deinterlacing setting on the misc tab of the config app on the default 'encoder pass-through' option. The other options will not use the hardware MPEG2 encoder, and have several undesirable side effects (audio start to lag video etc).

Upon viewing the mentioned .log file it states it is unable to locate the encoder pass-through file. What is the best & quickest recovery method. I have never played around with the files in Windows Explorer so am unable to say what has happened.

It is set to encoder pass-through in the configuration.

BTW it is using the Nvidia decoders.
