Yes, this is normal. As I said above, the components talk to each other using TCP/IP.

As others have noted, I see my ZA pulsing every second (or so). Will this activity keep a machine from going into standby?

Can I close the tray icon and not affect anything else in GBPVR? I don't use it that much and if it is causing the pulsing, then I'll keep it off.

Yes, you can close the tray icon. This will remove a lot of the communication, but you'll still see it when running live tv or scheduling recordings etc.

I did allow the tray icon all the permissions that ZA warned about, but that doesn't stop the communication. In fact, it enables the communucation. That communication is what is causing the pulsations. (Or, that is the working theory until I get a chance to test it.)

ZA is probably just showing the TCP/IP communication occurring. This communication is a normal part of the GB-PVR components talking to each other. There is no way to stop GB-PVR from doing this communication, and it is a required part of its function. Hopefully you'll find some way in ZA to exclude the GB-PVR processes from monitoring so that you no longer have to see these pulsations.

I use Zone Alarm, you could try the following:

Under ZA Program control the 4 gbpvr programs are at the top of the list (actually the program description is blank unless you click on it, then the filename appears in the dialog area below the list)

Once you find them set them up so that config.exe and gbpvrtray.exe has one check mark allowing access to trusted network. And the recording service and gbpvr.exe should have 3 check marks allowing all but server access to the internet.

You might not need gbpvr.exe to have server access on the trusted network unless you are using an MVP like I am but either way it wont cause a problem.

These settings will stop you from getting warnings and still allow you to have the ZA firewall protection in place.
