In reference to post http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=18407

It appears that I have the same problem as he did. I tried to follow the same steps you told him to follow but for some reason I can only view channel 3 on my computer. The funny thing is that it is the channel we have to put the TV on for the cable to view. Strange thing is that right now I have it on my PC.

I wanted to first get it all working on my computer where I am comfortable before I hook it all up to the TV.

Now, I do have this split on the out of the cable box. One line comes to the PC and the other to the TV. I should still be able to watch a seperate channel than that of the TV in the other room correct?

What files do I need to include cfg wise to show you guys? I am a newb at this and I tried getting it running many months ago but became to frustrated. Then my wife and I had our first baby Smile I have a clean install and I am determined to get this sucker working.

Your cable box will only ever be outputting one channel (CH3). This channel will always show the channel the cable box is currently tuned to.

How you should be setup can vary between cable operators.

1) If your cable operator transmits non-scrambled analog channels, like many operators in the US, placing the splitter before the cable box would allow you to tune in all analog channels. In this case the tuner on your capture card can be tuned to any of the analog channels, and has no relationship to the channel currently selected on your cable box (separate channel on PC and TV).

2) If your cable operator is only transmitting digital cable, or scrambled analog, then you have no option other than using the cable box and connecting it to your capture device. In this type of setup, you'll only ever be able to tune in the channel your cable box is set to. With this type of setup, you can use an IR Blaster to automatically change channels on your cable box whenever it is required.

Yes, I remember you from last time. From memory, you had digital cable. If so, then you need a setup like (2) above.

That makes sence to me. I had problems getting the IR Blaster to work last time. I do have digital cable along with a digital cable box.

My next question is about recording... Will I be able to record one channel and watch another with the digital cable? It seems that I will not be able to do this. If this is correct I am not all that worried about it I guess. But is there a way to make it happen?

Depends on how many cable boxes you have.
The cable box you have hooked up to your computer will be doing the recording, so do you have a second cable box hooked up to your TV?

Since this is a setup you only usually end up with after asking this question, I'm going to assume you only have 1 cable box.

If you only have 1 cable box, you cannot record one thing, and watch another on digital cable.

Just as an FYI, you CAN record one thing on gbpvr, and watch another PRE-RECORDED show.

Also, if you do infact get a second cable box, you would need a 2nd capture source in GBPVR. (another capture card)

As mpking pointed out, this sort of setup is much better with a second cable box. Otherwise you can only watch and/or record the one channel at a time.
