Recording playback issues

Hi folks, wonder if anyone can help me with this strange problem.

A few days ago, I upgraded the processor and RAM in my computer to an AMD 4400+ Dual core, and 2GB respectively. Now, I'm not sure if this has caused the problem, but ever since I'm having really bad video stuttering with the playback of my recordings.

Live TV works fine, but on playing back any recordings with either Power DVD, Windows Media Player 10, or GPPVR itself, the video jumps from frame to frame after a few seconds of normal playback. The audio stays constant, however.

Here's the strange thing. The recorded files play back perfectly using Media Player Classic - downloaded as part of the 'Real Alternative' package!

This leads me to think its a codec issue - if Power DVD, WMP and GBPVR are having the same problems (can't figure out why classic works though). Having said that, I copied the files to another computer on my network, and had EXACTLY the same problems - stuttering video, yet fine with media player classic. GBPVR is not installed on this machine.

I should also say that MPEG recordings recorded previously play in all my media players without any issues.

Help is appreciated!

Definitely sounds codec related, if it had to do with the processor or ram, livetv would be a problem also. Download a program called gspot (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/download.html), then load one of the files into gspot and click render to see which codec your system is using. That's the codec that would most likely be used by Media Player Classic. Then go into GBPVR configuration, and under playback options choose the same codec under the dropdown menus and see if that solves your problem.

Could it be the timestamp issue for the Hauppauge 150. It seems the problem is in the files, not in the system. Mediaplayer classic uses it's own decoders, I have seen it showing another showlength as wmp quite often.
You could try to Retime (http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utility/Retime) a file, see what happens.
Did you have a dualcore in your previous system? There is a setting about that in config.xml. Something like: processoraffinity??

Thanks for the reply guys:

scorpionv: I downloaded gspot via a google search (your link appears to be broken for some reason), though it appears to only support .avi files natively. It did allow me to select an mpeg, but returned 'n/a' for all the details when the mpeg file was loaded.

Htv: The card I have is a hauppauge HVR-1100, which has both digital and analogue tuners. I'm only using the digital tuner - does this rule out the 'timestamp' problem? I'm happy to install 'Retime' if not.

I had a single core processor in my system before. The instruction in config.xml reads:

Code:
<ForceSingleProcessorAffinity>true</ForceSingleProcessorAffinity>

Could this setting be causing my problems?

Cheers,

Using the digital tuner only makes me think it might be a mux problem.
Do you have mpg or dvr-ms recordings.

I changed the processor affinity to false, but the same problems occurred.

I have mpg recordings, after installing the Cyberlink mux from the twinhan download. Mux checker reports:

GB-PVR has detected the following multiplex filters on your machine:

Found: CyberLink MPEG Muxer
FILE: C:\windows\system32\thmpgmux.ax
VERSION: 5.0.2022

I was using this mux before the system upgrade with no problems.

Only thing I can think of now is: I don't know if you can/should upgrade from a single to a dual-core processor just like that. It's quite a change for the system I guess.

*If* this has any effect, I think it only has effect on new recordings made after the change of the parameter. And a restart of at least the recording service.

Oh, but you say the same recordings played fine before the upgrade... hmm...

Yeah, I did re-start the recording service but no joy I'm afraid.

To be honest, I did wonder how Windows would deal with the change of hardware, though in my experience, only a motherboard change causes damage to a windows install (usually through propriatory IDE drivers).

At this point I'm thinking a full re-install might be wise, unless anyone has any other ideas? It won't be a big problem for me; I keep the OS on a separate partition.
