Running multiple instances of gbpvr?

Hi everyone, I am running this software on my PC but accessing it remotely via a MediaMVP. I want to know if there is a way to run several instances of gbpvr from the same PC so that several MediaMVP's can be used in the different rooms of our house. I have a couple of Dbox's (so one for each MediaMVP) and will have a couple of DVB-T cards in the PC (in a week or so).

I know that I can run multiple WinXP OS's using VMWare (although not sure if the DVB-T cards will work using this setup as not able to try it yet).

Is this the only way or can you create various instances within one OS?

Also, what about accessing the different Dbox's from each instance? Can I record using one Dbox and watch something on the other Dbox that is setup in another gbpvr instance?
For instance, I record Sky One in the living room using a Dbox as a source, and my fiancee watches Sky Movies upstairs using the other Dbox as a source. Is it possible for me to watch Sky Movies downstairs via gbpvr if she's watching it through another instace of gbpvr? Does that make sense?

Finally, I guess it's easy to share recordings made from either gbpvr although they won't show up in the recorded listings on the gbpvr that didn't make the recording. I can simply add the folder to the video option and access it that way.

This part is easy to answer. There is a setting in the config app in which you tell how many MediaMVPs you want to run. Only one instance of gbpvr is needed.

I'm not sure I fully understand your other questions about the boxes (I'm at home with a fever, can't think right now ), but maybe what I said above solves all your problems?

easy one...lol in config, MVP tab you'll see 'autostart servers' and this is the number of different MVP servers you want to run...
each runs a different instance of gbpvr so you can watch whatever's available...
it should use any tuner that's available...[if you have 2 cards, then should be able to watch 2 diff shows same time on diff. MVP's..]

now you can't watch what she's watching if you're recording at same time..
that would need 3 tuners...but if not recording,then you could use the other tuner for whatever.. [the 2 instances can't communicate with eachother, they can just use resources from same pool]
i do believe you can both watch what's recording at the same time tho..

as far as sharing info, you both will be running from same database so should see all same info..

Just to clear things up, pBS is correct. I meant that only one instance of gbpvr needs to be installed. But, of course, several gbpvr servers get started up (one for each MVP) when you change that part of the config.

Wow, now I am getting excited. This is soooo cool. It's a shame you can't share one Dbox between two MVPmedia players at the same time but you can't have everything.

So if someone is watching a channel and accessing it from 1 Dbox, what stops the other user from changing the channel on that same Dbox and messing things up? Does it lock the Dbox? If so if I am watching a channel and then go upstairs to bed and then want to watch that same channel upstairs using the same Dbox will I get the option to take over the Dbox control or will I need to close down the MVP downstairs first?

I've never used the dbox plugin, so cant confirm its 100% the same, but usually GB-PVR locks a capture source while person is using it. Another MVP wouldnt be able to reuse this same dbox at the same time.

You'll have to go down stairs to close it down.

Locking the box would be a good thing if I've set a recording off as it stops other people (ie my fiancee) from changing the channel and messing the recording up. Do you think this is a possible addition the programmers can consider?

It would be nice if the other GBPvr instance asked if I would like to take control of the source the other instance is using or ask if I would shut down the other instance of GBPvr and free up any sources it's using. Maybe another addition to the program?

I dont know anything about the dbox plugin. It wasnt written by me, so not supported me. You could try asking the author of this plugin.

If you're running a neutrino-image on your dbox, you can try and use the "recording mode", that can be enabled in the configuration of the recording source plugin. I actually never used it, but as far as I remember, this will prevent changing the current transponder on the dbox during a recording or live-tv session.

Hi Sub and alibert... I'll have a go and let you know if I can work out a way of locking the Dbox just while it's recording.

As for realising control when it's finished I'm sure going downstairs and closing GBPvr (i.e. swiching off MediaMVP) will not be too difficult
