Hello,

I have a Haupage PVR150 video card. I am using GBPVR to capture TV shows. Each 30 minute show I capture is around 1 gig in mpg format.

I tried converting the mpg to divx with DivX Converter program afterwards. The resulting file was not much smaller at all and the quality was much worse.

For a 30 minute show what settings do I need to use when capturing with GBPVR? WHat program should I use to convert afterwards? I was thinking a 30 minute program should be no bigger than 175MB and in good quality.

Thanks!
Curtis

I believe that you'd might need a master's degree in video to answer your question correctly. You can check out this thread for some insight:

That said, you should be able to get "watchable" xvid (I think xvid might get a tad better quality than divx) using the built in transcoding of gbpvr, and a decent file size at the same time.
I'm not always right

I followed this thread:
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...ommercials
And use mencoder to convert to xvid.

I also followed: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...+videoredo to cut out commercials. This saves a lot of HDD space and still looks good.

I put it all in one postprocessing.bat and then modified it to delete the old files rather than save them. If you just ask I'll post my postprocessing.bat for you.

LOL, I've got to agree. There is no way of knowing how much time I have spent messing about with this and still don't feel like any of my transcoding results are really worthwhile. Besides, you may eventually want an MVP and they really work much better with Mpeg's.

In the same vein, I still throw away more improperly encoded DVD's than we watch.Big Grin
