I don't think you can do it directly. You can make a work-around with the My Programs plugin though.
If you create a folder with shortcuts to your video files , and then point one of the My Programs directories at it (it won't display e.g. an .avi, but it will display a shortcut that points to it), it will launch the file with their default player (assuming you've already got WinDVD as the default player for the type of file you are wanting to watch).
For complete tidyness you can then use the language plugin to rename e.g. the 'applications' button of my programs to 'my videos'.
Can I also ask why you want to watch with WinDVD? - it might be possible/more convenient to configure GBPVR to show your films how you like them, then there's no messing around with external players.........

Well I'm new at this, and maybe I am missing something, but there are no real onscreen controls, so how do I access menus, chapters, etc? Do I use a Hauppauge remote for that?
yeah, if you have a remote (Haupauge or Media Centre) GBPVR should give you basic DVD functionality (menue etc.) . I admit you haven't got quite the raft of features offered by a standalone player - but it should be enough for general viewing...

all you have to do is add an external dvd player to the list in the my vids config, and it will show you a popup of which player to use when you try to play a dvd (you may have to configured at least 2 players to get around a bug)
