Deleting to free up disk space

I delete both from the destination folder in Windows explorer and from the GBPVR application itslef on occasion. I have noticed that when I delete from the folder and then delete again from the recycle bin, it frees up disk space. However, when I delete from the application, I never get the disk space back. Does anyone know where the backups are stored so that I can delete them and free up my hard drive?

Sorry, I have to call bullcrap on that one. When you delete from inside the app, it deletes the file and the recording record from the database. This hasnt changed in 2 years - we would have had a few poeple running out of disk space by now if that was case...

I experienced this before as well. I am trying to remember, but I think that Norton Antivirus was protecting my recycle bin. I would delete a file (either thru GBPVR or in Windows, didnt matter), but my free space would not change. I would empty the recycle bin, and the space would appear. I even had my recycle bin set to not use the recycle bin, but to delete files immediately. I think you could disable the recycle bin option in Norton, but not sure. I installed Avast Antivirus because my Norton license expired. I think it is much better than Norton and its free.

When you deleted from the application, did you empty the recycle bin as well?

If you are using Norton, you will need to empty the recycle bin whenever you delete a file, either thru GBPVR or windows.

i'll second that norton sucks the big one. they seem to think that every person out there using a computer is a complete and total plebe and shouldn't really have that much control over their box. when i installed NAV2006, i spent probably 10 minutes actually installing, then about 3 HOURS arguing with NAV, to regain control over my pc again. every year they come up with new reasons for me to not like norton. i think maybe i'll check out this avast program you mentioned.

you CAN disable the norton protected recycle bin - it's in the recycle bin options, as a tab. uncheck the "protection enabled" box, or set it to purge protected files after 1 day (in theory this would give you 24 hours to realize you deleted that program that wifey wanted to watch and she'll chop your wedding gear off if you delete it).

[soap box]personally when i buy an "antivirus" program, that's all i want - not a 3-layer redundency deletion protection system, firewall, spam fitler (aka mail slower-downer/problem causer), and then on top of that, ADVERTS to upgrade to even higher (and probably even more obfuscating) versions/addons from norton![/soap box]

Thanks all. Sub, it's not bullcrap, it's Norton Crap. I found the protected part, and freed up 20 gigs of space by purging all the files.
