I have a 16:9 TV and the setting in the config is set to to show at 16:9. However when i play recorded videos it shows in 4:3 but the Live TV shows in the full 16:9 screen. Is there some kind of settings that needs to be set, i have looked into the settings in the plugin area and havent found any luck. I had this problem when i upgraded to the 98 version. Thanks for any assistance and for the good work been.

The aspect ratio can be cotrolled with F7 on the keyboard. F7 toggles between all the ratios as defined in the config.xml.

There is a wiki page exactly explaining what the settings mean and how to optimize them to your personal likings.

I have put these two in the aspect ratio settings:
<AspectRatioMode name="4x3" ratio="0.08,-0.05,0.92,1.05" />
<AspectRatioMode name="16x9" ratio="-0.03,-0.17,1.03,1.17" />

Further you can map these to yr remote by mapping F7 to any key.

so are you stretching the 4:3 video to 16:9?
or are you talking about shows which broadcast a letterboxed version of the HD show on the SD channel?

are you using FFDshow?
what aspect ratio do you have GBPVR set to? (that shows up when you hit f7 in live tv)

EDIT: dah got distracted while replying, whoops

What type of capture device are you using? Analog and digital cards behave quite differently in this respect.

What do you have your video decoder set to on the playback tab of the config app? The auto aspect ratio stuff only works if you have explicitly selected a video decoder, rather than relying on the 'system default' setting.

Whether or not that gives you much though depends on the type of capture device you're using. Digital BDA devices correctly report the actual aspect ratio, so GB-PVR will adjust automatically. Analog devices (PVR150 etc) always report the aspect ratio is 4:3 regardless of what it really is.

Actually let me add a little bit to my previous statement just so its clear:

When playing MPEG files, the auto aspect ratio stuff only works if you have explicitly selected a video decoder, rather than relying on the 'system default' setting.

I was thinking more for my DVD playback, since 99% are widescreen (I think I will have to check mediaman)

and what about auto aspect ratio on other files like matroskia and ogm?

There isnt currently auto aspect ratio detection during DVD playback. It just uses the directshow defaults, which usually gets it right.

I dont test with those types of files, so probably no auto aspect ratio there. AVI/divx/xvid files do auto aspect ratio correctly.
