Anyone know why this would occur? When I setup gb-pvr with a monitor, I set the standby timer in windows xp to 30 minutes, and it worked fine (I use suspend to RAM which basically powers down everything but the memory). The PC would automatically start when GB-PVR needed to record, and sleep about 30 minutes later. Now that I have it plugged into my TV, with nothing else changed, it will wake up fine, but never go to sleep again. Any idea how to fix it? I have the GB PVR screen saver enabled but it was also enabled with the monitor.

will it go to sleep if you are not in gbpvr?
(I suggest changing sleep timer to 1 minute for testing)
on the desktop if you move your mouse and then leave it for a minute, will it go to sleep?
if not you have some process which is keeping your machine from going to sleep, this could be a network share that someone has connected to, or a multitude of things

I have had periods in my gbpvr life when my computer won't go to sleep. I have never quite really figured our why. Things that are/have been high on my suspect lists have been:
1) Having a (tight)vnc server on my gbpvr server. Sometimes server has not gone to sleep until I have connected and disconnected once with vnc from a client. After that all works fine until some point in time when I had to redo the procedure.
2) Having the "next recording" panel running. I can hardly believe it myself, but for some reason turning it off has made reenabled sleep on my computer. But maybe it's just been restarting gbpv that reset something...
3) Changing the sleep timer in windows. I have experienced situations when changing the sleep timer (or the "power options profile") actually has made windows refuse going to sleep. Not until I have rebooted the computer has the sleep timer setting been honored by windows.

I'm sure there are more reasons, I just can't think of any right now...
I'm not always right

oh and just fyi, my computer never fully wakes up when it records.
I leave my TV on standby mode and it wil automatically wake up whenever there is a new image source. and it never turns on when gbpvr records a show.
however, I do also have my computer set to turn off the monitor at the same time it sleeps, so it might leave the monitor off but still be awake.

Hmm, I always leave the System menu up, because I normally use it to sleep the computer before when I finish watching. I'll have to try letting it sleep on its own.

Fixed by leaving GB-PVR in the main menu when I'm done watching instead of using the Standby function from the System menu in GBPVR. Apparently if you leave use the Standby function, which results in a wake-up with GB-PVR in the System menu at the next record, Windows power management cannot auto-sleep it.

odd, I can leave it both ways.
I manually standby the machine when I am done alot. but sometimes I am lazy and just leave it, and that seems to work fine too. its always asleep when I go to use it (since I have to hit the power button manually, damn remote not waking machine)

You can also use gbpvrwake and an appropriate wake.cmd file in the gbpvr directory to have gbpvr closed upon wake, and a fresh restart of gbpvr.

Search the forum for wake.cmd and MaBo, and you'll find a thread on hibernation with an example wake.cmd that restarts the pvr350 card. However the same principles work when waking from standby and without a restart of the tv-card.

If you have more questions on this issue, reply this thread or pm me.

Why power the computer off ever? I have my monitors sleep, but I leave all PCs running, all the time. Bootup is no fun for a PC's few moving parts.
