GBPVR 98.08b

When the EPG is schdeuled to update, an error is generated:

The description for Event ID ( 5000 ) in Source ( .NET Runtime 2.0 Error Reporting ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: clr20r3, gbpvr.exe, 1.0.2445.27502, 33, gbpvrbackendcommon, 1.0.2445.14608, 35, c1, 32b, system.nullreferenceexception, NIL.

This happens almost immediately, before any connection to zap2it is made. I've tried using the built-in zap2it and the XMLTV options and the error is generated before either if them gets to start. Both the EPG and the scheduled recordings are gone in GBPVR after this happens.

I'm able to get around this by doing a manual XMLTV grab and then going into the Config App/Edit Recording Source/Update EPG. The I get the EPG and scheduled recordings back until the next scheduled EPG update.

It seems like a .net issue. I've removed and reinstalled .net 1.1 and 2.0 twice, restarting when needed but this error still pops up. This is on a dedicated GBPVR machine with the standard 98.08b build. The system was rebuilt only 4 months ago. GBPVR has been reinstalled multiple times as well.

Is something still hanging around that gumming everything up? Any ideas? I plan to do a complete reinstall over the weekend as a last resort buy I'd prefer not to.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Sub. This is the only log file that is generated when updating the EPG via GUI.

Let me guess, you installed the new Community skin? I bet your problem is is related somehow to a compatibility issue with your version of GBPVRBackendCommon.dll .

Community skin? His logs make it quite apparent he is using the CountourHC skin.

stattik:

Have you tried going back to the Blue skin to see if it works? A lot of the null reference errors I have seen when using a non-Blue skin is a skin related issue.

Updating the EPG doesnt seem like it would be a skin issue, but my experience with the null reference errors are majority of the time skin related. Sub is the guy to definitely say for sure.

I didn't read the logs. Just the first message. And just because he's using CountourHC doesn't mean he didn't recently install Community.

I'm not saying the Community setup program is the source of the problem, but it's worth investigating because there have been some other semi-related issues and compatibility considerations.

Can you tell me what files you have in the plugins directory? List all the files.

You dont have GBPVRPublic.dll or GBPVRBackendCommon.dll in that directory? You shouldnt.

Thanks for the suggestions everybody.

I didn't install the community skin. I'm using ContourHC. I tried switching to the Blue Skin but the problem remained.

Here are all the files in my Plugin directory.
BleepBloop.dll
ComicPlugin.config
ComicPlugin.dll
DVDRipperPlugin.dll
DVDRipperPlugin.pdb
DVDRipperPlugin.zip
FastFindPlugin.dll

Update: I removed all plugin's and the ContourHC skin and restarted. The error occured again.

Possibly a munged config file? I am grasping at straws here unfortunately. I have been blessed with a pretty stable GBPVR setup since day one, so I haven't had many errors to troubleshoot. Hopefully Sub can resolve this for you.

I must admit I'm at a loss. I'm not sure what would cause this.

Do you have an UpdateEPG.bat file? This is one difference between running it from the config app vs the automated EPG update. It is run with the automated update. If you've got one, try removing it.
