Quick overview of my setup, I have a compaq d51s, hauppauge 150 and an nvidea 6200 lp tv out card. I am able to split out the tv signal so that I can get cable tv through the pvr and then digital cable on tv. I have been trying to get digital cable through the pvr. How do I do it?

You need to run the digital cable signal through your STB (Set Top Box), then feed that signal out to your pvr150 via an svideo cable. Then you need to setup another capture source in GBPVR to use the svideo input on the 150 and populate the EPG with only your digital channels. Then to control the channel changing, you need an IR Blaster and select the type in GBPVR so it can automatically change channels for you.

That is a rough idea on how to do it.

I have split the digital cable from the set top box through to the tv and then to the computer. I don't see an option for s-video on the set top box, so I just ran the coaxial cable through to the tv and through to the computer. For some reason, I get absolutely no signal on the pvr. I have setup the zap2it sybscrition to include the digital cable channels, but unfortunately I don't get any channels at all.

Instead of splitting the cable from the set top box, I have also tried running it to the pvr but nothing comes through at all. I have a serial cable connected and have been using the MOT exe which I see has been changing the channels. on the box. I am at a loss on what to do next.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Jon

So there is no scart or RCA connectors on the back of your STB?

You will have to set another capture soure without any Epg. click edit beside the capture source 2. You will need to click settings beside the recording source and make sure composite is selected for source. It will record what ever comes through your tv

If you bring coax in from the STB, then it will have to come in on a set channel (like channel 3) When you config the tuner in config, you need to set it to point to that channel. That way it will change the channel on the STB without changing the tuner channel. Does that make sense? Hang in there, your setup should work.

I am not sure what MonsterRain is trying to say. It should be straight forward. When you config the source, choose direct recording for the recording source, click settings and pick the 150 as your tuner. Then select the source as fixed channel, external tuner. Then select your fixed channel. Set up the epg and your should be good to go.

If should have RCA output or something besides cable coming out of your STB. If you do, then you can select composite or Svideo from the source list. In that case, you don't have to pick a fixed channel. You may get higher quality video this way. YMMV.

I read through this and was able to bring cable from my STB into my PVR-500, so that part is good. I am having an issue with changing channels...I have it setup to use the MCE blaster, number 1 but it wont' send any commands over to teh STB. Does anyone have any experience with the MS MCE remote and it's IR Blaster in this type of setup that could point me in the right direction?

So in reading through the thread I have to admit, I have been a Girder fan for awhile and noticed the Girder plugin in the channel changer. I enabled the "server" plugin, restarted teh service and now am changing channels on my STB and having the correct channel info display with channel changes.

I think it should work the other way around though, I should be changing the channel on teh computer with the MCE remote and it sends the command to change the channel to teh proper one to the STB correct? Only reason I ask this is, without testing this first mind you, when I set something to record, I don't believe the computer will change teh STB to teh proper channel to get teh info. Like I said I haven't tested this yet as I was so happy to get it working at all, that I rushed in to post Big Grin I'll play around but thought incase anyone was on that uses this type of setup might holler and let me know which way it should be.
