I'm having some trouble getting GBPVR to run. It installed without raising an error, but when I try and start it, it crashes. The dialog is the standard application crash "Send / Don't Send" one.
The error signature is:
The error detail is absolutely huge, containing (amongst other things) a dump of each memory range gbpvr had allocated. It also doesn't seem to be cut'n'pasteable.
When I try and run the config program, I'm getting an "unhandled exception". The message states:
In 'Details' it states quite a bit about how to turn on JIT debugging, and some potentially useful information in the form of:
It then goes on to detail the versions of all the dlls and so on that are loaded - but that list is long, so I haven't pasted it here to try and keep this already long post to a length where maybe one or two people will read it... If there's something important to check in there, I'll paste it in another message.
If I click 'continue', the config program does then load, but there's nothing in the majority of the listboxes. Attempting to make any change brings up another unhandled exception, probably with much the same detail.
The target machine is an Athlon (Thunderbird core) / ABIT KT7 / GeForce FX5600 / Creative Labs AWE32 / Hauppauge WinTV Nova-T (early version - the one based on IIRC the SAA7146 chip), running a fairly clean install of Win2000, with very little software installed. I've installed SP4, the SRP, IE6SP1, DX9, the .NET framework v2.0, MDAC 2.8sp1, MSXML 6, and all the patches windows update could find. The drivers and application that came with the card works - well, up to a point, anyway. The app throws errors when I do certain things in the interface (like right clicking on most of the controls!), and has deigned not to show certain channels - generally the more useful ones - but it's not a total failure. I've managed to get a decent rendition of (for example) BBC4, channel five, sky three, E4+1, and a whole host of more useless channels - so I think it's just a crappy piece of software, rather than an actual fault with the install. It certainly gives off that general air of crappyness that's made me come looking for a proper application. Which is why I'm here. Sadly, I haven't got GBPVR running yet. People keep recommending MythTV to me, but that requires more of a change than I was planning to make to the system...
"File not found" (though irritatingly without saying *which* file in a way I've noticed) would suggest I've missed installing something. I did a search, and decided it could be a mux - and lo, there was a useful tool to check these out called MuxChecker. I ran it, and it said I have no muxes installed.
The original app does show me a whole load of channels, including several from each multiplex it's detected. I had a poke around and couldn't see any obvious .ax file to register, so I guess the original app is doing something wierd and internal to get a channel out of the multiplex. Following a link from a post in this thread I got hold of a copy of the CyberLink Mux - and MuxChecker now shows this as installed. This didn't fix the problems running GBPVR or the config program though.
I'm now out of ideas - I haven't seen anything obvious in searching. (I'm beginning to wonder if this works on Win2K at all, despite the website clearly stating it does.) Ideas anyone?
