I had all but banged my head against the wall trying to figure out my problems with GBPVR.. Despite having a decent system, I had all sorts of problems with GBPVR being sluggish, the video badly stuttering just by bringing up the program info or live guide, changing the volume could throw things out of sync, etc..
I saw interesting atapi errors in the Windows system logs, so I checked out the settings for the Primary and Secondary IDE Controllers from Device Manager.. and I discovered in the Advanced Settings tab that the transfer mode was stuck at PIO Mode.. talk about being sluggish! ugh... and Windows doesn't let you change the setting! It gets triggered after so many errors / timeouts.. I suspect mine were because of things crashing and hanging while I experimented with stuff.
Anyway, all you have to do is Uninstall the IDE channel that is stuck in PIO mode, and then restart. Windows will automatically re-install the drivers on startup and everything will be reset back to lovely Ultra DMA Mode..
.. and at least in my case, I *finally* have a very happy silky smooth GBPVR
Just something to check in case all else fails!
