Yes, I hadn't upgraded for a couple of months and was pleasantly suprised. I was waiting for this one. Many thanks. Big Grin

mugun: Try mapping the f7 command to a remote control button so you don't have to go to the keyboard every time you start a 4x3 recording.

So, I have a 16:9 TV, the config.xml has the following (have all been there for since previous versions):
<TvShape>16x9</TvShape>
<AspectRatioModes>
<AspectRatioMode name="Auto" ratio="0,0,0,0" />
<AspectRatioMode name="Fill" ratio="0,0,1,1" />
<AspectRatioMode name="LetterBox" ratio="0,0.125,1,0.875" />
<AspectRatioMode name="Remove LetterBox" ratio="0,-0.125,1,1.125" />
<AspectRatioMode name="Center Cut" ratio="-0.05,-0.17,1.04,1.17" />
<AspectRatioMode name="PillarBox" ratio="0.08,0,0.92,1" />
</AspectRatioModes>

When I use F7 to cycle through the options, it never lets me use Remove LetterBox or Center Cut.

Why would it be that I can't select these modes? I'd really like to watch 16:9 DVD movies filling the whole screen rather than just stretching the 4:3 w/ letterbox from the DVD to the edges of the screen (the same with 16x9 movies recorded from SDTV as well). What am I doing wrong?

I have the NVidia Video Decoder selected in both the Playback and DVD tabs. Overlay Manager (VMR uses an extra 40% cpu with no apparent benefit).

This will be because you're using Overlay, which is unable to do the negative coordinates for these aspect ratios. You need to be using one of the VMR renderers to use these two aspect ratios.

Sub, thanks - that works great for DVDs.

The only problem is that now when I put things in PillarBox (for SDTV) - there is a bunch of "junk" to the right and on the bottom. This happens for recordings and live TV.

If you've got an nvidia card, you may need to try VMR9 Custom rather than VMR9/7. This junk may be part of the Nvidia aspect ratio bug.

I was unaware of an Nvidia aspect ratio bug... don't remember running across that in my searches of the forum or wiki...

VMR9 Custom did the trick - everything looks great now, and amazingly enough, the CPU load is much closer to what overlay mode than VMR9 mode... thanks for the help - I guess I preemptively ruled out VMR9 Custom since:
1) One of the support pages mentioned that the CPU load for that was larger than VMR9
2) I didn't think I needed any "custom" settings.

Sub - as always, thanks for your incredibly fast and accurate help with what probably seem like rather obvious things to you Big Grin
