Reproduce your problem with Overlay, then zip and attach your gbpvr.exe-native.log and I'll see if I can see anything obvious.

I will explain what I have done to try and get it right in hopes it might help...
But, it still does have some problems...

I also run Sage TV on same machine. I can only run Sage in overlay mode or it will stutter.
If I try to run GB in overlay mode, I just get a black screen so I am forced to use one of the VMR modes.
VMR7 sutters really bad... VMR9 is better...and VMR9 Custom is almost watchable. (but not acceptable)
I have tried every renderer you can think of and many different combinations. Some get real bad sound sync problems and others sync very well. But still the stuttering which is very noticable in camera pans and fast action.

I do have subtitles disabled and minimal OSD enabled.

Playing prerecorded AVI files are fine only Live TV suffers.

I feel as though I could get into overlay mode my problems would be solved (wishful thinking)

Any ideas?
JD

have you tried replacing the directx 9.0c quartz.dll file with the 9.0b file ? i had the jerky playback for a while until i downgraded that file.

I too have found some similar choppy issues with the 98 version of the GBPVR software.

Running this on a Opteron 144 rig with 2GB ram. Nforce 430/Nvidia 6150 (integrated graphics). Running the NVIDIA 92.91 (Sept 14, 2006 release) of the PureVideo HD beta drivers.

Ran fine on the 97 versions and earlier.

I notice that VMR 9 with Custom is unwatchable, switching to VMR7 and VMR9 is better, but only if the mouse is not moved and the osd is not displayed (performance hit, system has to catch up).

The software is set to its basic levels and it will record shows and play them back just fine. I have tried using the Nero and Cyberlink video decoders.

Any ideas??? Can you offer an earlier version (like the 97) to roll back to?

Thanks!!

Just to say I too am experiencing the exact same problem with 98.

Stuttering on live tv unless the OSD is on screen.

It was working fine in the previous version install. I have kept a copy of the old install on another disk to be able to swap between them.

I've tried setting vmr 7, 9 and custom with little difference if at all.

Teletext is switched off in config.xml.

I've checked through the config.xml files side by side and all everything is set the same.

An update, as I've also spent the last few days trying to resolve my stuttering issues...

My situation might differ a bit from some other posters, as reverting to GBPVR 96.12 DID NOT actually make the problem go away (even though it USED to play stutter-free in 96.12 before I upgraded to the current GBPVR build).

I'm using D-Scaler5, which has been my default decoder since about January.

I've gone through a few different quartz.dll versions, too. Previously, I was using 9.0b under 96.12, back when things were fine. But trying different ones doesn't seem to matter. I've been sticking with 9.0b, regardless.

I also updated to the latest DirectX release yesterday, which came out October 10th. No improvement (it didn't touch the quartz.dll, which I thought was weird).

I've gone through many combinations of audio renderers/decoders, with no success (though I've found some combinations that definitely seem to make it worse, including AC3).

I use VRM9, and have tried all the others without gaining any improvement.

Oh, and I've also updated my Hauppauge-150 driver with the one suggested (in another posting) and performed the registry edit.

One theory I have is about .NET 2.0, which I upgraded to around the time as I upgraded to the current GBPVR version. Is this a possible cause???

I'm using the Hauppauge PVR-150MCE, Windows XP Home, and an ATI Radeon X1800 with the current drivers.

Thanks,
S.

Because yours is only a problem when the OSD is not on the screen, then I'm fairly confident you problem relates subtitles (either teletext or DVB subtitles or SRT), since these are only received and rendered when the OSD is not on the screen.

Try with the following settings in config.xml:
<
BDAEnableDvbSubtitles>false</BDAEnableDvbSubtitles>
<ShowClosedCaptions>false</ShowClosedCaptions>
<
EnableTeleText>false</EnableTeleText>
<UseTeletextSubtitlesInLivePreview>false</UseTeletextSubtitlesInLivePreview>
<
CaptureSubtitles>false</CaptureSubtitles>
<
InternalSRTDisplay>false</InternalSRTDisplay>
<
InternalDvbSubDisplay>false</InternalDvbSubDisplay>

Given you've only had the problem since v0.98, unlike the original poster who has had problems on everything since v0.96, then I'm guessing its a different cause. I'm also guessing yours is somehow related to subtitles, so worth trying those settings I mentioned above.

I never upgraded to 97.x so I couldn't say if it had the problem or not.

Quote:Have you tried deleting your config.xml to force it to go back to the original file? There may be some wierd setting you've got in there that wasnt used in older versions of GB-PVR.

Nah, I had the same problem when I installed it on a completely virgin Windows XP installation on a Mac Mini (via boot camp). I'm currently running MCE2005 on the Mini so I can't really test again as I understand GBPVR doesn't work on MCE2005 without disabling the MCE services.

These things didn't help at all. I modified as per your suggestions. I upgraded to 98.13 and things haven't helped any. I also don't have any 'preview' windows showing up anywhere? Got an idea why?

To give a better idea, when the OSD leaves the screen everything pixelates briefly and then it returns to normal. When the OSD comes back up, same thing occurs.
