Good luck, I hope your new supplier will also respond to your questions within respectively 23, 7, 29, 5, 8, and 11 minutes

I waited over a year for Hauppauge to fix their driver to do what it was advertised to do (control a UK Sky box via the blaster).

Mention a problem with GBPVR on here and it's fixed the next day (usually Wink.

I agree with Sub's initial thoughts.

I can't really understand how sub manages to find the time to both develop and support GB-PVR. Especially when considering that a large number of problems are due to things outside of subs territory. Many of the problems with my setup has been caused by drivers, muxes and Windows optimizations, not by GB-PVR and I think that 98.13 is the best so far.

The support given by sub and the members in this forum is really the best. Sitting in Sweden sending logs to sub and getting a direct response is fenomenal.

astradtn Wrote:I'm almost certain that the answer to this question is going to be: "Don't use Vista", but I figured I'd give it a try anyway:

I'm using Windows Vista build 5728 (post RC1), and GBPVR seems to work just fine after disabling the new permissions mechanism. I'm having trouble getting my MVPs to work though. They conenct just fine and display the GBPVR main menu, but after about 30 seconds it loses the connection and goes right back to the "Contacting Servers..." screen.

Is it possible that the .NET framework 3.0 that Vista uses is incompatible with something in the MediaMVP server? Can I install .NET 2.0 over the top of .NET 3.0? Is this a known issue?

I saw this other post from you in another thread. How can you complain like this when you are using Vista? It is very likely that your problems may be related to this, since Vista is not supported yet.

I kinda liked what Sub was going to post initially. Man I know if I spent as much time and effort into this as he does ... that would be the reply. Sub is an iron man, I have no idea how he does it all.

Of the few times i've had a problem with GBPVR I can honestly say it's usually & windows issue, a driver issue or I was doing something I shouldn't have & broke something.Big Grin

since my hardware is mostly plain-jane I don't usually see a lot of the problems other's do on the forums.

I've been using since 96.xx & I can usually have a fully functional PVR up & running about an hr after windows & all it's updates are installed.

Been using huh? Do we need to start a GB-PVR Anonymous support group for addictions? Big Grin

I never expected this many responses. Clearly my original post had a lot of misguided anger, but in my defense, I have searched the forums for each of the problems, and have found topics about them, which had no meaningful solution. I believe it is overall bad to not search for the answer first. Why should I ask the same question again, if it wasn't solved the first time?

While I do overall agree that GBPVR has made progress over the last year, some important features have just been left by the wayside, for example, PVR350 support. Although I no longer use my PVR350 for output, I was still disappointed to see it removed from support. Simple things, such as fast forward, rewind and pause (the whole purpose of having a PVR to begin with) should (in my opinion) be carefully examined for errors. An unreliable recording service is just as much a fatal flaw.

So maybe I approached this wrong, but my complaints are not unfounded.

As for the people who claim that I should be helping to "make the software better" by sending in my donations, how exactly does that work? If I'm going to pay for something, I want it to work as advertised. I also find it hard to rationalize paying a "donation" for software that is free (as in beer) but not free (as in liberty to use, modify, change and distribute). Although it isn't instrumental to the reason for my post, free (as in beer) software that isn't free (as in liberty) is the worst possible license construct. That, however, has nothing to do with the reason for my complaint, and if you have nothing constructive to add, perhaps you shouldn't add anything at all.

Oh, and just because I tried that abomination of software known as Vista, doesn't mean that I decided that I liked it. Obviously from my previous post, it was determined that GBPVR does not work with Vista, and no help was going to be given, thus I put GBPVR back on XP. Again: If you have nothing constructive, don't add anything at all.
