I'm trying to get GB-PVR running on a fresh install of Windows XP SP2 with all updates. The program worked fine for a few days, but now it's crashing every time I try to start it.

If I right-click on GBPVR in the system tray shortly after restarting, I can get the context menu, but if I try to select GV-PVR or Config, I get the following:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

At a quick guess, it looks like something wrong in your config.xml file.

Invalid character in the given encoding. Line 8, position 32.

Have a look in there, or post it if you want someone to look.

There has been a couple of users that have caused this problem in the past when they've tried to edit the config.xml. Its usually fine to edit with notepad, but wordpad does fair as well.

Assuming you're not using the bitcontrol or Sonic decoders, you could try deleting the ® symbols from this line, or alternatively go back to the original config.xml.

The thing that's confusing is that the errors all refer to "system.xml", not config.xml. So I'm wondering if "system.xml" is related to gbpvr or .NET? There is a file called system.xml associated with GBPVR, but I haven't touched it, and I don't see anything that could cause the error above.

C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\KeyMappings\System.xml:

<mappings>
<command name="SYSTEM_UP" key="Up"/>
<command name="SYSTEM_DOWN" key="Down"/>
<command name="SYSTEM_LEFT" key="Left"/>
<command name="SYSTEM_RIGHT" key="Right"/>
<command name="SYSTEM_ENTER" key="Enter"/>
<command name="SYSTEM_ESCAPE" key="Escape"/>
</mappings>

There are also files called system.xml.dll in .NET 1.1 and 2.0 subfolders in Windows. One of these files is even referenced in the error I posted earlier:

System.Xml
Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0
Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.42 (RTM.050727-4200)
CodeBase: file:///C:/WINDOWS/assembly/GAC_MSIL/System.Xml/2.0.0.0__b77a5c561934e089/System.Xml.dll

Most of this is above my knowledge level, so thanks to anyone who can help...

I don't think I used Wordpad, but I might have. Anyway, replacing the config.xml with a copy of the master worked. Now I just have to figure out what's wrong with the original config.xml

The exception you posted above looks like its having problems loading config.xml. I'm fairly sure it is just the ® thing described above.

System.XML is just a dll containing classes to read/write xml files in .NET,
In this case config.xml
