Did you find the pdf at tvxb? It contains a quick installation guide, as well as a quite detailed one.

hb, I can certainly help you set up TVXB as I use TVXB exclusively and got quite "deep" into it when struggling with initial setup. However I use it only because I am not in the US nor the UK, which have the (free) EPG Grabbers Zap2it and Radiotimes respectively.

You could use TVXB, but AFAIK most UK channels are on Radiotimes, so I recommend you get hold of a copy Alan Birtles Radiotimes Grabber and use that; it's very simple, I even tested it myself when trying to help out a UK user for station) (one of very very few) that was not on Radiotimes. There's also a very good (free) EPG viewer so you can how it's working.

So while stefan's suggestion to look at the pdf is a good one, it is very daunting and Radiotimes is "all you need". I am surprised PC Answers would recommend TVXB, which is very good but quite "involved" (and the author is based where I am living) in the UK, when a much easier alternative exists.

Hi, Thank you for your reply. Much appreciated. I'd downloaded TVXB, a localised ini file and read the PDF as far as I could without getting completely and utterly confused, however got to the point that I thought this is much to deep (for a newbie) and really began to think that this projuct is just not going to work. Whilst I hate being a defeatist I thought that I was just taking on too much with this project. The original article in PCAnswers did not and does not prepare readers nor offer them all of the guidance that's needed to get this Hardware Project to work.

Anyway, if someone's willing to offer help on this I am prepared to perservere.

If you recommend Alan Birtles Radiotimes Grabber that's what I'll give a try.

Any idea's how much more work is involved in setting up GB-PVR, Media MVP and my Nebula-Electronics USB DVB-T Receiver in order to get this project working?.

I'd intended on hooking up to two seperate TVs using two Media MVPs, obviously without trying to run before I can walk is this possible or will GB-PVR act as a server to one Media MVP only?.

Thank you. :-).
Best Regards.

GBPVR has no limitation to the number of MVP's you can use with one server. The only limitation is how capable your hardware is. The more MVP's you will wan to use at the same time, the better server you will need...

Thank you :-).

When you say it worked earlier, I assume that it worked with the Hauppauge software. Since you are using a cross over cable, you will need a DHCP server somewhere in your system. The Hauppauge software has a server built-in, GBPVR does not. Most of us us a router with built in DHCP in the system to serve the IP address. Try the forum search function and I am sure you will find a ton of stuff on this. It is also on the WIKI. Good luck.

homebrewpc, lets break this down into bite-sized chunks.

If you are in the UK, forget TVXB for now.

You'll need to be a little patient (that's not a small sick person Smile ) . It looks dauting now, but read the wiki, and come back and tell us what you don't quite understand. Perseverance is good.

I do. (no, that doesn't mean I'm going to marry you).

Nope. There are umpteen combinations for a HTPC. But one Tuner, one MVP, one PC is not hard. (But someone else needs to help with DVB-T, we don't have it here.)

Hi, Yes, it's working using the Hauppauge Software. I'm glad that you've said that the Media MVP software acts as a DHCP server where a cross-over cable is being used as I could not understand how my Media MVP was getting an IP address.

Usually I leave my router allocate IP addresses for devices added to my network (as you've said most people do).

Think perhaps I should connect my Media MVP to my router and go from there.

Thank you :-).

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

I've followed setting up EPG as per the following URL found on this forum:

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=15269

Checked the .xml file using the EPG viewer (brilliant download!) and this seems to be alright.
Pointed towards the .xml file in Config.

What needs to be done from here I don't know. Downloaded and installed BDA drivers, used GraphEdit to determine what needs to go into bda.ini.

My bda.ini file starts as follows:

[SETUP-Main]

[DigiTV USB]
TUNING_TYPE=DVB-T
FILTER_TUNER=Nebula DigiTV USB BDA Filter
FILTER_CAPTURE=Nebula DigiTV USB BDA Filter
PIN_TUNER_IN=Input0
PIN_TUNER_OUT=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_IN=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_OUT=MPEG2 Transport

[Hauppauge Nova-S]
TUNING_TYPE=DVB-S
FILTER_TUNER=TechnoTrend BDA/DVB-S Tuner
FILTER_CAPTURE=TechnoTrend BDA/DVB Capture
PIN_TUNER_IN=Input0
PIN_TUNER_OUT=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_IN=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_OUT=MPEG2 Transport

Think that this is alright.

I'm trying map channels via Digital Channel Mapping and no channels whatsoever are being found (strength: 0, quality: 0).
- No channels found. Please check your signal and configuration settings.

Can confirm that DVB-T Receiver was working without any problems prior to the DBA drivers being installed.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi,

Still perservering but not managed to get GB-PVR to work at this stage. Need further help on this I'm afraid (please?).

Under 'Edit Recording Source'....

Recording Source: BDA Recording Plugin:
- Device Type: DigiTV USB (as entered into bda.ini)
- Checked 'Only show devices detected in this machine' and the device number, type, Country and Region/Transmitter were automatically filled in (and seem to be correct Smile ).

EPG Source: XMLTV Plugin:
- XMLTV File: c:\Program Files\XMLTV\data.xml

Channel Changer:
- No channel changer required option selected

Several channels appear however upon clicking on 'Map digital channels to EPG channels' the following error message appears:

Scanning 1,2,3,4,5,6 of 6 (strength: 0, quality: 0)

.... No channels found. Please check your signal and configuration settings.

Must be doing something wrong somewhere Sad .

Found another example bda.ini but this was for the PCI version of DigiTV.

Read a little about checking for a Mux and there wasn't one installed. Downloaded MpgMux.ax, copied this into c:\windows\system32 and registered manually via regsvr32 MpgMux.ax. A DllRegisterServer in MpgMux.ax succeeded mesage appeared (which is good I guess) appeared. Has this been done correctly and is there anything else that needs to be done so that channels can be found?.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you Smile .

P.S. bda.ini reads as follows (corrections made)....

[DigiTV USB]
TUNING_TYPE=DVB-T
FILTER_TUNER=Nebula DigiTV USB BDA Filter
FILTER_CAPTURE=Nebula DigiTV USB BDA Filter
PIN_TUNER_IN=Antenna In
PIN_TUNER_OUT=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_IN=Input0
PIN_CAPTURE_OUT=MPEG2 Transport

Still cannot find any channels though Sad.

Would a log be of any use for trying to work out what's going on with my GB-PVR installation?.
How do you go about producing a log?.
