Can't get Web Scheduler to work

Maybe someone can help me...

I can't seem to get the webscheduler feature to work. I want to be able to connect from my office and set up recordings or whatnot. I just downloaded GBPVR, so its new.

I enabled the Web Scheduler feature in the configuration menu. I had to switch the port to 443 because that one has worked in the past at my office on other things. I opened it up on my router, unblocked GBPVR in Windows Firewall and added the port in there too. Not sure why I can't get it to work.

OK... I have concluded that I can get it to work on my home computer using the default port: 7647. However, my office blocks that port... so I can't connect from the office. When I try to change the port to 443... because that is the port that I use for my UltraVNC (remote access) it doesn't work.

About half the time when I try to go to the link I get a message asking me to open a .aspx link/file.

All port #s below 1024 are "well known" ports and are preassigned to generic network services. TCP port 443 is already dedicated to HTTPS. You can't use it for GB-PVR web admin.

EDIT: That should read "shouldn't use it for GB-PVR web admin." I notice from other posts that you're overloading 443 for VNC. It might work, but you're asking for trouble when you remap ports like that.

If your employer is blocking ports, you need to find out which ports (>1024) you might be able to get through. Either through trial and error or by asking somebody in IT. If you have a buddy in IT they may be able to help you out.

It is generally a bad idea, security-wise, to open ports on your home PC directly to the public Internet. You may be OK if you can use some goofy high numbered port that is unlikely to be probed, but it is just a matter of time before someone scans your IP address and tries to break in. I do it this way myself, but it still makes me paranoid.

That sounds like an URI remapping problem. I've seen it myself. What is generating the error message? If you see something about "Cassini web server" you may actually be browsing into your GB-PVR box, it just can't figure out how to service the URI.

Try something like this:

http://<your IP>:<your port>/gbpvr/login.aspx

THat is the link that I was going to... it would just ask me how I want to open the link and only showed me the aspx thing to open it with.

Windows won't be able to listen on port 443 for both ultravnc and GBPVR. I suggest you use a port above 1024 as said previously. I would use something in the 65000 range. Internet ports are from 0 to 65536. I use 8080 myself.

So when you go to put your address into IE you should format it like this......I will use 8080 as my port and 65.106.1.196 as my IP(not my real IP).

http://65.106.1.196:8080/gbpvr/login.aspx

You MUST include the http:// otherwise IE will fail.
