Think that was a little unfair Sub. It's gone 1am here in the U.K. and I'm over-tired due to lack of sleep due to stress. I'm happy enough with determening what file extension a recorded file is (right-click right?). I've followed the Wiki as best as I can and, considering that I was following a step-by-step guide from PCA magazine that did not explain how to set-up the GB-PVR application I've managed O.K. What I was asking (but did not put this across properly at a guess) was where in GB-PVR config or web-interface config can settings like this be checked?.

sub Wrote:I've never done this myself, so cant help you with this.

O.K. fair comment. Shall try vlc and do some more searching on this forum. Think that someone did post some settings for use with vlc so shall try to follow that.

File types are showing as 'Microsoft Recorded TV Show'. Rather than trying to put me off the GB-PVR application by suggesting this is not the app for me due to the question that was asked help on determining the file format would be appreciated. I've spend hours and hours perservering with this project and congratulate you on how powerful it is. Please bear in mind that not everyone is fully up to speed as you are. As a GB-PVR newbie I'm certainly not up to speed with the config and all of the features of GB-PVR but am keen to learn. Keep up the good work.

Hi,

Unfortunately selecting Live TV is still causing MVP to reboot Sad.
Am no longer using a HomePlug 85Mbps Ethernet Adapter or Wireless Video Sender and am a little lost for other things to try to get around this problem. Can anyone offer any suggestions please?. Recorded programs seem to playback without any problems other than the occasional skipping back to Recordings menu.

Tried two MVPs and they're both doing the same thing.

Just my luck if these have an intermittent fault on them Sad.

If attaching logs are worthwhile these can be posted.

Thank you.

zip and attach the logs and I'll see if there is anything obvious.

Also post the output of muxchecker.

Hi Sub, Installed VLC and right-clicked on one of the recordings again and now the type of file is making a lot more sense. Really felt an idiot earlier this morning whilst you'd said that you were sorry but this application is probably not for me if I'd not known how to check what format was being used. Was going about this correctly but file format wasn't being reported in a format that I could recognise. Anyway, since installing VLC I can confirm that the programs are recording in .mpg format. This is alright isn't it?.

Logs as requested are attached.

Output of muxchecker is as follows:

GB-PVR has detected the following multiplex filters on your machine:

Found: CyberLink MPEG Muxer
FILE: C:\WINDOWS\system32\MpgMux.ax
VERSION: 5.0.0813

If you're running WinXP SP1 or higher, you will also be able to use the built-in DVR-MS mux filter

I'd try using a later verison of the Cyberlink mux. That one is known to have some problems with crashing and not writing files.

Your logs seem to indicate these files you're trying to play are only 2048 bytes long, which ovbiously isnt long enough to be a real mpeg file.

I'm guessing you werent able to play those same files with VLC?

Hi Sub, Thank you for your reply. Can you please suggest a reliable download site for a later version of the Cyberlink mux. Am almost certain that I'd downloaded a later version but guess that this is not the case. Wasn't aware of any files being only 2048 bytes long. Played back many recordings via the GB-PVR application itself without any problems. 2048 bytes must be referring to some failed recordings at a guess as GB-PVR did 'brown trouser' some schedules as you'd said some 3-4 nights ago.

VLC seems to be playing back .mpg files flawlessly. Excellent download IMHO.

No, but I'm sure a forum search should turn up a download location. From memory a lot people get it from somewhere on the Twinhan site in one of their downloads.

Thank you.

Can confirm that I've checked the .mpg files that I've been having problems with (MVP skipping back to 'Recordings' menu) and they're all approximately 500Mb each (1/2-hour approx each). There aren't any that are 2048 bytes long.

Thats certainly what the logs looked like. The files I'm referring to were created when you clicked the live tv button - these start at zero bytes and (assuming the mux is doing its job) grow as you watch tv. These files do not start at 500MB.

Thank you for that Smile . Thought that you were referring to .mpg files that were 2048 bytes long as could not find any. Can't find a later Cyberlink Mux but shall search through this forum for further advice/suggestions/links.
Perhaps the mux isn't working properly. Knowing my luck it's not. Need to try some others I think.

Rgds.
