I recently purchased a Logitech 5300e surround sound speaker system & a Creative Audigy SE sound card. I have Cyberlink PowerDVD 6 & Nvidia Purevideo decoders.

When playing DVDs in PowerDVD or Windows Media Player w/ Purevideo, I get correct 5.1 sound. However, regardless of what decoder I use in GB-PVR, I only get the front left & front right channels of audio (it's playing in 5.1 format, but the center and rear channels have no signal). Using the Purevideo decoder in GBPVR, I can bring up the options menu while playing a DVD & successfully run the speaker tests of all 5 satellite speakers, but only get playback sound from L & R.

It seems I can switch the settings back to Stereo mode to get all of the sound, but the whole reason I bought the system was to set up a home theater. GB-PVR is a shell for Windows Media Player, correct? So why does everything work fine in WMP, but not GBPVR?

Saying GB-PVR is a shell for WMP might hurt someone's feelings... Big Grin

Actually it uses several of the same techniques to display video, but GB-PVR does have the ability to select and use its own codecs.

I'm not sure if I have the answer right off, but I think it has something to do with

1. the audio codec that GB-PVR is using is not actually setup for 5.1 (I have seen a cyberlink codec work fine for the PowerDVD itself, but not for other media players)

2. Something else has gotten in the way. It's possible that you have ffdshow installed and selected GB-PVR to process with it. That would effectively change the way the codec works.

These are things I've read. I just don't have a solution, except to buy the PowerDVD codec (platinum I think)

Just thought I'd pass on what I know. Good luck

I don't have ffdshow installed currently, so that's not the issue.

I meant no offense saying GBPVR is a WMP shell, just that the Purevideo decoder correctly plays 5.1 when playing in Windows Media Player. The settings for the decoder are identical in GBPVR & WMP, and it makes logical sense to me that what works in WMP should work in GBPVR since GB uses WMP for its playback, correct?

Obviously there's another unseen factor at work here . Anyone have any other thoughts?

I'm sure no offence taken. But I know that GB-PVR does a lot more than just shell out its functions to WMP. Remember that WMP is Windows and any Program that runs on Windows uses some of the shared components Windows provides.

Now my program, ZProcess, is a shell program. It does not transcode whatsoever. It merely asks another program to do all of the work...

Anyway I digress...I meant my comment mostly in jest...

You might want to check a couple of these links out...
