That is exactly how I started. It doesn't make sense to try to figure it all out at once. Soon you will be so hooked you will be trying to find ways to use the interface while you are brushing your teeth. Good luck and have fun. You know where to ask the questions if you have problems.

I personally like SUSE (and have liked it for years, MS endorsement had nothing to do with it) I found it very easy to set up and it supported all of the antiquated hardware I threw at it. I currently have an always on file server running suse, using samba to serve files to windows boxes. I also have nightly backup scripts for things like documents, they are surprisingly easy to write and use, I suggest all people use them if they have somewhere to back stuff up to (in case of drive failure really)

Cool. Thanks Ted. I've never touched Linux though so it will be a learning experience Nightly backups are exactly want I want to do.

Actually I have a Hauppauge 150 I think you missed it in all my ramblings.

let me know if you want help, I literally just wrote some batch files for backup scripts, they copy the important folders to a nightly backup folder on the file server, really simple, but I lost a HDD and didnt lose any files, so I guess it works

That is actually on my list to purchase next before the Navy sends me off to College. I have to take babysteps, otherwise I will end up with a HTPC for every tv in my house! Which is eventually the goal
