as said above, probably nvidia was pissed that ATI did so much better, but for now the UK link works

Ted the Penguin Wrote:actually, I think you can use the purevideo decoder on a ATI card and have hardware acceleration enabled (I think it does DXVA), and it will use AVIVO. if anybody has to much time to try that out, sure, why not i wouldn't mess to get them running at once, might cause more problems than benefits and besided that: if you have ATI, stick with it & AVIVO, there where almost no tests included where purevideo was better (and even then only marginally better than AVIVO) it's about time to throw out my nvidia card & go for ati... sub Wrote:Yep, what he said. curiosity killed the cat
ahh, found the new link... good info, but i also was dissapointed to see no encoding accell. but it's pretty dang fast as it is..
you can try out the avivo decoder if you have the alternate avivo transcoder installed on any card...just put "ATI MPEG Video Decoder" in config.xml as one of the supported decoders and it will show up in config if found..has very low cpu on my Nvidia 5200 and my ati 9550.. if you have any ati MM stuff at all you already have the en/decoder..[eg:ATI video card, capture cards] on mine even seems to support quality deinterlacing and hardware accelleration.. [about same cpu as purevideo decoder for all modes..vmr9,vmr7,overlay] YMMV

Hey PBS I am re-doing one of my systems with an ati 9550 this weekend.
I was going to give purevideo a try but now that I know how to use the AVIVO encoder i'll give it a try. Thanks!

Just built a new GBPVR box, installed a new ASUS 9550 card.
Been trying all sorts of decoders ie: Cyberlink, Intervideo, Nvidia....different combinations - you know the drill. Was surprised at the results - they all look the same to me. Guess you need an ATI 550/650 capture card to use AVIVO. OTOH I did try the Component dongle with the 9550 plugged into a SDTV - WOW nice clean picture. Unfortunatly I ran out of time and couldn't get the overscan issue resolved. Regards

aahhh,yep....gotta adjust those ati card's overscan.....only drawback with ati...but now we can adjust the GBPVR size, so not a problem..
[in config.xml] there is slight difference between them, and also on the cpu usage front.. but since i watch a compressed satellite signal, the compression artifacts are always there so hard to tell what's being introduced by my en/decoding... one good sign, if they all look similar, means you have you system working right.. [certainly doesn't make ya wanna pay for a codec does it?]

avivo only really applies to newer cards, that support all of the avivo functions.
however IMHO old ati cards are better than old nvidia ones

i use the zoom and overscan and offsets on mine...
really just zoom and overscan will do... you set 'video mode' or 'overscan mode' in ati driver, wchich is way too big and cuts stuff off screen, but it fills the whole tv.. then go and adjust those settings to have gbpvr squeeze ever so slightly the video to fit new overscanned size of tv viewable area.. here's mine but i shift my whole screen down to adjust for a bad tv... Code: <!-- zoom control --> adjust to your specific tv area...
