I have ordered a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 and I'm downloading the latest drivers and software while waiting for it to arrive. It is my intent to use gbpvr and dedicate a PC to my television/cable box setup. I will be using the Hauppauge remote to access the gbpvr menus, and I'll need to have gbpvr flip the channels on my cable box utilizing the IR blaster included with the Hauppauge card.

The Hauppauge site assumes I'll be using all of their software, so it isn't clear to me what is absolutely required, and what I can skip. I'd prefer not to clutter up the system with junk I don't need. The Hauppauge site implies that everything is required, but I'm assuming that is only if one doesn't use something like gbpvr. Here's what I'm thinking I must have, and what I can skip, but I would appreciate confirmation:

--WinTV-PVR-150 Base Driver: REQUIRED
--WinTV-PVR-150 Driver Update and Middleware: REQUIRED
--Hauppauge Video Decoders: REQUIRED
--Hauppauge Remote Control Application: REQUIRED
--IR Blaster Software: REQUIRED

--WinTV Scheduler: CAN SKIP
--WinTV2000 Application: CAN SKIP

Do I have it right? If someone will confirm I would appreciate it.

--WinTV-PVR-150 Base Driver: REQUIRED
--WinTV-PVR-150 Driver Update and Middleware: REQUIRED
--Hauppauge Video Decoders: Not required if you use another video decoder. You can use Nvidia PureVideo, Dscaler or others. Most people either use Dscaler or PureVideo. Dscaler is free.
--Hauppauge Remote Control Application: REQUIRED if you want to use the remote
--IR Blaster Software: Only required if you have a set top box that you need to control

--WinTV Scheduler: CAN SKIP
--WinTV2000 Application: CAN SKIP

Thanks BoomerBrian. One follow-up question: I just bought a video card to handle the output to the TV (XFX GeForce 6200 256MB 64-bit DDR AGP 4X - Retail). It hasn't arrived yet, and I'm new at this. Will the video decoder I need likely be included in the driver/software package that comes with that card? The driver/software is in a 30MB exe file that's called "Forceware". Or is it necessary to get PureVideo or Dscaler IN ADDITION to what comes with the card? Thanks again. The help is appreciated.

Guess what I got for Christmas? yea, PVR-150. I knew GB-PVR is the best when i first saw the site. I got almost everything working, except for recordings. I schedule a recording, and the recording section says its recording, but i can't watch the recording while its going. Is that normal? and also, while its recording, i check the status in the tray icon status, it says its sleeping. When the recording finishes, I can't find the recording in GB or on my computer. I've tried the different codecs and i can't get it to work. I need some help!

When i hit pause while watching live TV, it goes in order: timeshifting mode, no tuner available, and then Error: object reference not set to an instance of an object.

When something is "recording" and i hit play, nothing happens.

Reproduce the problem, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

Yes you will need either PureVideo,Dscaler or some other decoder. Those two seem to be the most popular. PureVideo is seperate from ForceWare. You can download a 30 trial from Nvidia if you want to give it a shot.

k, i figured everything out.

First time i installed GB-PVR i didn't have the .net framework installed, so i reinstalled it.

But i think the real problem was i couldn't understand that i didn't have a mux. I read it a thousand times before i actually realized that i needed to download something. I'm using Dscaler and everythings working great. for now.

Thanks to everyone who created this, this is a masterpeice. Amazing work.
