Father Christmas has delivered a new Panasonic Viera 42" plasma (TH-42PV60A) and it looks great except for one problem area. When viewing the GBPVR menu, and jpg images from the Photo Library, via the MVP I get vertical lines uniformly spread across the whole screen. There are about a dozen vertical 'lines' 3 pixels wide then a clearer patch about 10mm wide before the pattern repeats. These 'lines' are more a slightly brighter intensity rather than black. It really ruins the look of the images which would otherwise be magnificent.

This pattern exists both with svideo and composite output. Movies (mpgs) are excellent, not showing this problem at all.

Anyone any ideas for me? TIA.

I have the Panasonic TH-42PX60U; basically the same tv. I can't say that I have noticed this other than if I stand about 2' in front of it when the screensaver is on I can see vertical lines in the blackscreen similar to what you describe. don't see anything like that at any other time. Oh, and I only get this with the MVP, which is the only input I have that is still s-vid. Don't know if it's the MVP or the s-vid input.

A couple of thoughts:
- How far back from the screen are you? We are about 14 feet and it looks stellar.
- You have just got it? Have you gone through and calibrated it? Most important - took it off the 'vivid' presetting for the showrooms?*

* You want to do that anyway, to reduce the risk of burn-in.

I have some calibration settings that I found via google somewhere: I can post 'em if you want, see if that helps.

Good luck.

Thanks for reply, Groover. My setup picture options are a little different from yours (PAL not NTSC for starters) but I have had a fiddle with the settings.

But it is interesting that you can see the same aberrations as me. However, mine are evident from the normal viewing distance and show up particularly with a light even background e.g. light sky or person's white shirt.

To be honest, now that you've said that, it's maybe not so similar - I have to stand right up to the screen and it's only on the ssaver. And then it looks more like a vague vertical dot crawl.

If I was you I'd be contacting the store/ customer service/ warranty dept. It's a lot of money for you not to be happy.

Don't know if this helps or not...

Sounds different. Mine is definitely not a crawl - it is rock solid.

Cheers.

Are there any settings on the tv that you could try wrt the inputs e.g. svideo/rgb etc.
You could try another dongle, or try the hauppauge sw. See what happens. The fact that it plays mpg's perfect makes me think it might be a mvp thing.

I tried an older dongle and got same results. Interestingly, the Hauppauage dongle load/startup screens are perfect. The lines only appear when GBPVR starts.
