Thought I would chime in and state that I'm getting this too.

Are any of you using an onboard Soundmax chip - AD1980 or similiar? There is a problem with the drivers and SP2 which causes a similiar problem to what you're experiencing - only through SPDIF though.
I've narrowed down my problem with timeshifting (check my other threads) to the drivers for the Soundmax. There are workarounds for this, changing drivers (realtek ones instead of soundmax) and reverting back to the portcls.sys that came with SP1 (v5.1.2600.1106). Google 'soundmax spdif' and you'll see what I'm talking about .....
MSI K8NGM2-FID, 1G RAM, 3500+ CPU, Barracuda 7200.8 120G PATA, Twinhan DVB-T, DNTVlive twin tiny USB2 DVB-T's, Nvidia 6150 onboard, MStation HT-1100 with built-in VFD & Imon USB IR Receiver, Sony AV-3100 with USB-UIRT ( can't use universal remote with Imon receiver because of this  ), Chaintech AV-710 'bitperfect' to amp, Seasonic S12 430W PSU, Nexus/ Panaflow case fans, 120mm Zalman CNPS7700-Cu CPU cooler, Generic LCD TV with DVI connection

I'm getting a similar problem but it only occurs when using the DVD feature. As soon as I hit DVD on the main menu, the wav volume automatically goes all the way down. This doesn't happen in any other mode such as watching recorded shows or .avi files from video library. I'm not using spdif and it doesn't happen when i ff or rwd.... i'm just using my onboard nvidia nforce audio controller.

I am experiencing this problem also, with the latest release, 98.13.
When playing either a video recording or DVD, going from FF/RW back to play causes complete loss of audio, which can only be restoring by stopping play and restarting. Going from Pause back to play causes no problem. This is quite annoying, since FF/RW is a pretty basic function, and on the Remote Wonder Plus that I am using, there doesn't appear to be any key mapped to the skip functions. Thanks, Don P.

Sub,
I just installed 99.15, and this issue appears to be resolved now. I'm not sure what changed, but I now have no problem using the FF/RW, with short skip disabled. Thanks, Don P.

It works for me with standard recordings, but not with HD. At least least it does not kill the sound.

dpeterk, did you mean ver. 99.05? You say the loss of volume after fast fwd or rwd doesn't occur now?
