Quote:2: Also, I saw some screenshots and people have got icons for the channels. Mine's just text right now. How do I make them turn to channels?
You can put icons with the same names as the channels in C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\media\ChannelLogos. ie, a channel4 would look for channel4.jpg or channel4.gif or channel4.png. Some EPGs supply links to the channel icons and GB-PVR will automatically download and install them, but thats not the case with the DVB EPG.

Quote:3: My DVB EPG is working but I notice a few of the channels aren't complete and Channel Five stops at midnight on Sunday. Any ideas?
You'll probably find channel five is only transmitting a three day EPG, while some others are transmitting a seven day EPG.

Quote:4: Finally! Do I have to do a Complete/Full EPG update or does it just fill in the gaps?
You dont have to, but I prefer to do since its more likely to correct updates to the airing time of some shows.

craigspud101 Wrote:Thanks for all the help yesterday. Everything's working hunky dorey now. I'm even thinking about upgrading my hard drive, buying a dual tuner (any clues for a USB2 DVB one folks?) and setting up the mvp/ tv sender bits!!!

Here's another one. I'm on DVB-T (Hauppauge HVR 900 USB 2) UK Freeview, Crystal Palace, London. I've got the DVB EPG to update but I've got a few questions:

1: They don't seem to be in order. I notice I can change the channel thang in config but wondered if any other Brits has a tool to do it? ;o)
the way I do it (but still manual) it is to make e.g bbc channel numbers 1x (ie 10-19), itv 2x c4 3x etc so they are all grouped together and it's easy to slip in a new channel when they arise (like the recent addidtions to C5)
so c5 was 51, and it was easy to add 5us and 5life as 52 and 53

check the wiki for channel logo tool it does it all for you

yeah, c5 is poo

i've always had complete reload UNchecked and never had any probs.

Thanks Muchly Sub. Do I need to empty the epg before or is that not necessary? Also, I read in the forums something about increasing the time in the config.xml is that necessary or have the broadcasters started playing by the rules yet?

if you have all your epg data, leave it alone. if you start to get completely missing data for some channels then you need to open config.xml in the devnz/gbpvr folder with notepad find <DVBEPGharvestduration> and change the default 60 to something higher

It'll automatically empty the EPG as part of the automated EPG update.

A couple of UK channels dont play by the rules, so if you're in the UK then you may need to increase the <DvbEpgHarvestDuration> setting in config.xml.

Cool. Thanks again you two. I'm all set for an evening's tinkering now! I'm looking at getting the Hauppauge WinTV NOVA TD STICK. It's got a dual DVB-T Tuner aparently. Have you heard of them? Any problems? (I'm totally addicted to this now! I'm even considering buying a new machine to act as my pvr!

I think that the TD stick is really for laptops only. It uses a tiny aerial and I doubt that it will take a signal from a rooftop aerial.

Either get another HVR 900 or perhaps a Nova-T 500 dual tuner PCI card. (Mine should arrive tomorrow).

Thanks for the reply gEd. I've got a laptop! I'm presently on an aged Toshiba Portege but it's gog a gig or RAM in and doing rather well with the WinTV HVR 900 (which looks like TD stick, it has got a coax connector in it?) I've only got 2 usb ports, if I got another 900 would it be ok to put them both on a usb2 hub?

If I say yes and it doesn't, you will be miffed with me.

2 x devices connected to a hub that is connected to a single usb2 port = 2 x devices into 1 usb2 port. I would be a bit concerned as to whether this would work with both tuners running at the same time but perhaps there are some folks here who have done this successfully.

The main problem you might find yourself running into with the laptop (especially once you have added another tuner) is a lack of disk space as the disk capacities are generally much smaller that those found on pc's. I guess you could add an external usb drive if required.

I hear you there gEd! I've only started playing with this in the last week! (My folks live in Spain and had a problem with their cable (they get all the sky channels but it was down ) and my Mum was desperate to watch Coronation street! (something's going on right now, I don't know what I don't watch it!) so I ended up rushing into Dixons and buying this hvr900 which seems fine. I got it setup and installed Orb (http://www.orb.com) and my mum's now happy a proverbial pig!

I was thinking about getting a usb drive and then what with another tv card I guess I'll just be better off getting a decicated pc for it!
