OK. I'm all set, got my icons working (woo hoo!) and recordings looking good.

How do I get all the Freeview channels to come in my system? At the moment I've only got the ones that were on air when I set up my system? (It's not really a problem as the only ones that are missing are the childrens channels cbeebies, cbbc, citv etc.) Any clues?

scan for channels again before 7pm (I think). BBC3&4 are transmitted on the same channel as CBBC and CBeebies. BBC3&4 take over after this time.

That worked thanks. Only problem I find now is my aged Toshiba Portege's started giving up from being left on all day! I'm going to have a play with suspending or hibernating it. Am I right in thinking it'll come up if it's scheduled to record something?

Also, I've seen some checkboxes etc but is there a link for how to set up the system as a "Server" with clients (i.e. other pc's in my network) being able to connect and watch stuff? (I see how they can watch the vids but can they then also watch the telly? What about the in progress recordings?)
