Hello,

Please forgive me but I have searched and searched for an answer to my problem.

I just downloaded and installed the lastest version of GBPVR. I followed the directions and only installed the original driver for the PVR 350. I didn't install the IR until I couldn't get it to work so I copied the IR.exe and ran the setup. It loaded but I got the old " Failed to Initialize Infared Remote Hardware" error. I have read all sorts of fixes but I'm not really sure what I should do. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Did you click the "fix hauppauge remote" button in the gbpvr config app?

I dont think that will help. The "Failed to Initialize Infared Remote Hardware" is generated by the Hauppauge software, and not a good sign.

It means that ir.exe can;t detect your pvr-350.
Can you watch tv with Wintv2000 ? You need to make sure you can get it working ok with the supplied software before moving onto gbpvr.

Perhaps try the latest application and drivers from
http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/support/s...0-350.html

The 350 can hang when the pc comes out of standby / hibernate, though (IIFC) this is usually when using the tv-out on the card.

The tv-out output on the 350 is no longer supported by gbpvr due to a number of unresolved problems with the hardware/drivers. If you use it as a regular tv tuner and output to your video card, you should be able to us eit ok. (once you fix this current problem)

I uninstalled the Ir.exe driver that came with the pvr 350 and then installed the lastest remote driver found from Hauppauge website and still no luck. Same old story "Failed to Initialize Infared Remote Hardware". I am running Windows 2000 SP4 with all critical updates installed. I also attempted to do the fix hauppauge remote for both remotes although mine is the grey 43 button model. I have even tried replacing the Irremote.ini file with one that another forum thread suggested. Maybe it's just no luck chuck but I thought I would give it the old college try.

The "fix" option in config.exe simply adds a gbpvr entry to irremotre.ini. I don;t think that the error you are getting has anthing to do with what's in your irremote.ini.

What about wintv2000 - does this work?

I noticed on the uk hauppauge forums that there wasa 3.3b driver that apparently with with a pvr cards, and on win2k os. perhaps try these drivers.

make sure you follow the recommended driver upgrade process and run hwclear before upgrading drivers.

I appreciate the help gEd. I read in the install notes not to load the WinTV stuff so all I loaded was the driver for the pvr 350 and I ran the ir.exe setup for the remote. My device driver doesn't show the infared device so I'm pretty sure that Windows 2000 doesn't see it either.

Not sure what I should load from the installation cd that came with the pvr 350. What else should I load from the install cd? Also I have a couple of other questions.

How to I run the hwclear? and what is all the talk about "focus". I have read loads of stuff that refers to focus.

One last thing, I'm not oppossed to buying a pvr 150 and installing it too. I am having lockup issues with the TV out mostly when going from live tv back to the main screen. I was thinking that if I purchased a pvr 150 installed it and used the remote config that just might fix the remote problem and the tv out problem I am having.

Thanks.

Hi

install the drivers, ir remote app, wintv2000 and intervideo decoders.

read this for info on installation procedure

http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=6041

"focus" - no idea . unless u are refering to the fact that the gbpvr app must have focus (be the forground application) for the remote to work - this is not a problem.

lockup issues when exiting from live tv. I think that this is a classic pvr-350 problem. you aren't using the tv-out on the 350 are you?

does the 350 appear ok in control panel, system, hardware or does it have a yellow ? mark, which means it isn't installed correctly?

Yes, if you are using the tv-out on the pvr-350, lockups are frequent for many users. A few users can use the tv-out without problems, but I haven't heard of anyone *with* the problems who have solved them.

The only thing that I know that will definitely get rid of the problem is to use a graphics card's tv-out instead of the pvr-350's tv-out. Unfortunately you will loose the benefit of the hardware decoding of the pvr-350, since it only works when using the tv-out of the pvr-350 Sad
