Yes, the original software records, plays back and watches live tv with no problems.

The software my 350 comes with will play live tv (pause and rewind functions) and also record and play back. It is close to being a full PVR, it just needs to be integrated with the MVP software so you could play liveTV on the MVP and it will be a great starter PVR set-up. Of course, GB-PVR has a few thousand more features, but freeware will always beat the software that hardware vendors make to go with their devices...

But to be certain: the mvp does not play livetv with the hauppauge sw?

no, the MVP doesn't play live tv by default. But live TV works on my computer screen and the recordings play back ok, so I can safely say that the problem is with my MVP, my dongle file, my GB-PVR MVP server, or my connection between the computer and the MVP.

I think it's time for you to post your logs from the log-dir. So someone can have a look, maybe me, preferably Sub.Smile

I should have thought to do that yesterday...

I'm not too sure how the logs work, i.e. when they delete old data and the like. I'm also not sure that you would want to go back through logs that have days worth of data, so I first zipped my full logs directory and called it GBPVR.zip. Then I deleted the logs, reloaded GBPVR, opened and closed config to be sure that all the logs recreated themselves, hard booted my MVP, and tried first a recording and then a live tv. I zipped the resulting log files as GBPVR2.zip.

Thanks for looking at them. My biggest problem is the skipping. Now I can't rule out a network problem because today I started having trouble downloading files (I had been having trouble d/ling VideoArchive for some time and today it corrupts everything that I d/l, but the MVP problem has been going on for longer than that. I am in the process of updating my network drivers and testing cables to be sure that isn't the problem now...

You'll need to reset the logging level to 'debug' then reproduce the problem and repost the logs.

Thank you all for your help. Last night as I was working on this, my drive ran out of space. I discovered that I had a piece of spyware that was building up a log file of sorts that listed every web site I went to. It was over 15 gigs and killing my virtual memory. Since the system was just set up about two weeks ago and had no other software on it yet, I just formatted and started over from scratch. This time, I d/led Mozilla first thing to protect myself. I set it all back up and the problem is gone, so either the low disk space, or another problem that a clean start cured was the culprit.

The video quality isn't clean, are there any setting that might help with that? Also, I am still working out ubstream, which is giving errors about system problems, but otherwise the software is basically set up.

In another thread, I talk about the combination IR blaster and paraLED box that I am going to build. That will be the last piece of my system. Once that is done, and these few hiccups are out of the way, I will be quite pleased.

sub and htv, thanks for all the help. This is a great program and the best part is that people actually care enough to give support. When money isn't as tight in the future, I'll give something back for your troubles... In the meantime, I hope that this thread and the others I have posted as I found other quirks with my set up will help other people in the future...
