Note that most blasters plug into the IR receiver or PVR card or whatever hardware they plug into with a simple standard mono headphone jack, and I've heard of people extending them for great distances simply by buying a mono headphone extension cable down at the local radio-shack.
In fact I've read posts where people got it working fine with a stereo extension (which should be much easier to find)

To clarify, you almost always need to put the blaster right on the set-top box. But as long as you're happy to run a wire from one to the other the kind of extension you would by for your walkman headphones should work.
