I just recently started recording a show which is on twice (consecutively) on the same channel. I only want to record the second time slot, but the scheduler automatically shows the first being recorded as well. Is there a work-around for this? I noticed it in 0.98.13 and it's still happens in 0.99.5.

Thanks,
-Brad

How did you set up the recording? If it's a re-occuring recording you could specify all shows in this daily/weekly timeslot and that should work.

That is the selection I used - "all in this daily timeslot, this channel". I just ran the ChangeDatabase.exe to switch to SQLite. In the process of setting up my reoccuring recordings again I see that it still selects both entries.

Any other thoughts?

Okay, I found something that is new in 0.99.5. When you look at the reoccuring recording list, it shows some of the shows w/ extra text below the title. The text "Daily, between x - y", and it's always a 3 hour window centered on the start time from the TV Guide. From this it would appear the scheduler automatically grabs any other scheduled programs with the same name in the window. I guess this would be handy if your show gets bumped due to a sporting event, etc (assuming the TV listing knows about it).

I kept screen shots of my 0.98.13 setup for reoccuring recordings and it didn't have that text, although it did have this scheduling issue.

Is there a work-around to prevent this?

This is normal, and has always done this. The timeslot recordings look for shows with the same name that start in a +/- 90 min window of the original recordings start time. It does this to allow for slight variances in the start time each week (like if a show airs an hour late one week). This scheme generally works well, but as you can see is not not perfect.

If this logic doesnt suit your needs then you can adjust the size of that default 90 minutes, by adjusting the <AllowableTimeslotVariance> setting in config.xml. Setting it to 0 would only record shows at that precise time...but dont come back whinging if it doesnt record an episode that airs at a different time one week.

That actually explains a lot. Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try.

I modified this to 25 a while ago because of an issue with back-to-back episodes of Law & Order, and it's been working well for me.

Sub, could this be modified to look for the first show with the same name in that time period? That way, if things got bumped out due to a sporting event or a Presidential speech or something, the first airing of the show would get recorded, and the second would be ignored.

I'd rather leave it the way it is. Its really difficult to guess the way broadcasters will transmit things, and they're just as likely to replay an episode from the last season followed by the new premiere show, which would be missed using your logic.
