The GBPVR wave.....

I watched the CPU usage while GPBPVR is just sitting at a menu (actually, I guess it was on the screensaver) and there is a curious pattern in CPU usage that emerges. It it low (under 5%) for 6-7 seconds, then 45-50% for GBPVR for a second or two, then it repeats.... (See the attached capture).

Anyone know if this is normal? Seems really strange....

Change your Playback setting in GBPVR to VMR9 Custom Renderer. I had the same issue, and this fixed it for me. You can also try Overlay Manager, this also solved the CPU Wave. Hope this helps.

Sorry... I thought I had uploaded the CPU chart. I tried it just now and the upload window didn't do it, but it was not clear that an error happened. It said it was too large. I cropped it.

I went back and watched the CPU monitor in Taskmanager, while it was over the GBPVR screensaver in action. The CPU increases corresponded exactly to when the gbpvr image faded in and out. I guess that fade logic is pretty intense on the CPU.

Do you still need the logs?

Ok, that sounds normal then. It is relatively CPU intensive to do a fade in/out with the GDI+ graphics library GB-PVR. With a fast machine, it should be pretty minimimal though, so I'm surprised you'd have such big peaks.

You could try setting <DisableAnimation>true</DisableAnimation> in config.xml.

Thanks. I'll give that a try. My CPU is an AMD that is rated to be equivalent to a 2.2Ghz Pentium 4, so it is tad weak.

You know what, I just looked at my CPU graph while the screensaver was on and it does the same thing. Only I have some pretty substantial CPU power compared to some HTPC systems. Is that normal? perhaps I should apply the same fix.
