Is (are) my following assumption(s) correct when running GBPVR in client mode?

In GBPVR's Config (on the client), Directories Tab - both the Recordings Directory and LiveTV Buffer Directory settings are meaningless on the client (as these settings are configured under the Capture Sources Tab)???

I understand that the Video/Music/Photo Library Directories settings are used by the client.

Second Question:
Since Recording Management is done on the Server's Recording Service, why do the clients have to run the Recording Service too?

I am having an issue with Live TV on the client, It states it has Started Timeshift Mode and then about 10 seconds later it goes back to the Menu or TV Guide. Recordings and my videos (on the Server) do play at the client.

I'm using an HDHomeRun (Configured on the Server), Client's Capture Source set to client/server - File Sharing Mode, DVR-MS and Overlay on the client. I've tried different settings for LiveTV pre-delay and Use Live Preview mode if possible is unchecked.

I do see the temporary recording files on the Server in the TV Buffer directory (since Timeshift is enabled for the clients by design) and these files do get deleted automatically.

I get the recording updates (pending, recording now, recording soon etc.) fine on the client, everything seems to work but Live TV.

Any suggestions? Rolleyes

Thanks in advance!

In theory they dont need to, but it was easier for me to leave it running.

This is a known issue with using dvr-ms from a client. I'm not sure why - I've not looked into it yet.

When the server is recording, you cannot make changes on the client with the Config - Gives a message stating the current recording(s) would be restarted and asks to Continue or Cancel.

Can the Recording Service be stopped on the clients in the current version then?

And thank you for the amazing speed with your replies.. WOW, do you ever sleep? Big Grin

The client doesnt need the recording service, but I dont test running without it. There maybe added hassles like the config app trying to restart the recording service (though I expect it'd just restart the client one, not the server one).

Ignoring the hassle of the config app restarting it for you, you should be able to safely stop the recording service on the client when GB-PVR is running.

Just for reference, tried both DVR-MS and the TS Mux, no go with Live TV. The Cyberlink option works. Both of these settings are in the Server's config, the Client's config settings are not used.

Yeah, I would have guessed the TS Mux option would have been a no-go aswell, but I'd never tried it myself, and never seen comments about anyone else testing it.

I have not been pausing Live TV on the server, but I just tried it with the DVR-MS selected, and GBPVR gives the "Starting Timeshift" message and then either gives an error about 'Protected Memory' or crashes.

I take it that the issues with DVR-MS or the TS Mux apply to timeshifting on the server itself, not just clients on the LAN?

I can't remember and can't find the thread(s), but wasn't there a post a couple weeks ago about the BDA driver for the HDHomeRun not supporting timeshifting currently?

Anyone know/remember?

Better yet, are there any HDHomeRun users who can timeshift in GBPVR on the Server?

You cant use the TS Mux for timeshift mode. Its only a very new option added in the last release, and only to be used for recording.

You should be able to use DVR-MS for timeshift mode when running GB-PVR directly on the server. If its not workinfg for you, zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

OK, I rebooted, started GBPVR, tuned to a channel and pressed 'watch' (timeshift mode off by default). Pressed the 'Pause' button and saw the Starting Timeshift TV mode, please wait message.

About 5 seconds later, I got two error messages but could only read the last: Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Logs attached....

If I restart the GBPVR app (also restart the recording service) and watch Live TV, I get stutter.. rebooting and it is back to normal.
