Priority Support Suggestion?

I know "KingArgyle" in this forum is working on some form of external priority support but I would like to inquire how GBPVR currently schedules the reoccurring programmes?

Currently in Recordings - Reoccuring the shows are listed in the order I put them in there I think.  I assume when conflicts are new recordings are checked this list is parsed from the start to the end?

Does this not mean you can get priority support if you added the abilitiy to move Up/Down the items in the Reoccuring list?

If a programme is moved up or down GBPVR would then recalculate the Pending / Conflict list?

Would this work?  I would have thought if it did it would be a lot more simplier and less effort to implement than an external manager / plugin?  It would also mean you are not ending up with multiple applications needing to be run?

TIA

Currently, GBPVR does a first in first out method of getting recordings. So yeah, you could go through and add do an adjustment on the recordings. You currently have to do this manually, or edit the database directly. Also, GBPVR treats all recordings as equal. So manually scheduled recordings are treated at the same level as season or re-occuring recordings. To get this to work with prioirty, you would have to have the system include those recordings in the same method as it does reoccuring so you can give them a priority. Currently you can't do that with GBPVR, you have to manually resolve any conflicts and fix them yourselves.

The external recording manager will treat all recordings based on priority, this is manual or re-occuring recordings. Giving you the ability to specify how manual recordings are treated when rescheduling (i.e. high priority, or low priority).

You are correct it would be easier to do this by reordering the list at least for reoccuring recordings. Jorm might be able to implement this type of priority scheduling in XRecord, by reading in the list of re-occuring, allowing them to be reordered, and delete the existing entries, and add them back into the system in the new order.

The external recording manager will also give you more options on how your recordings are managed (i.e. season, all episodes, episodes I have never recorded, how many episodes to keep (i.e only keep 3 episodes)). So it is eventually going to expand beyond the current priority scheduling.

Besides I get to further my knowledge on C# this way. [Image: smile.gif] Besides, I suspect that the program I'm developing will be obsolete whenever Sub gets around to adding priority recording into GBPVR.

Thanks for the informative reply.  Your solution is way better than my suggestion I just wanted to see what other people thought of an alternative method (no offence to the time you spend developing and supporting GBPVR).  If Terrestial Digital support is added to GBPVR I may end up using your external addin if simple built in support is not available I just think its a pity that just simple priority support is not included in the standard package.

I get the impression that Sub has no plans on adding Priority support that is why I was suggesting what appears to be a quick solution that could be considered.  Since posting the original message I thought that the Pending list would also need to be updated after the guide data has finished downloading also.

No offense taken. I probably won't write a plugin manager for the External Recording program. I'm writting the main access methods into a DLL so that if somebody wanted to, they could write a nice front-end to it. I do plan to write a Web front end for it (mainly because that is how I interface with GBPVR).

You are right though. When new recordings are added and shifted around, the schedule should be updated so that the new priorities are taken into account.
