I'd like to do a (mostly) clean install of 99.5 but I don't want to have to go through the processes of reconfiguring and setting up my tuner cards, zap2it subscription info, EPG update, recordings schedule and recordings library data, photo/music/video directory names etc.

How can I do that?

Is it a simple matter of shutting down all GBPVR exe's then renaming the current GBPVR install directory to something like 'GBPVR_old' and then creating a new directory called 'GBPVR' and copying my current config.xml and gbpvr.mdb files into that directory, then installing GBPVR 99.5 into the GBPVR directory that I just created? Do I need to copy more files than just those two?

Thanks for a great product sub and all the users here are great too.

I think hat should do it (hope I'm not forgetting anything), but you need to be on version 99.5 in the first place in order to be able to use your backup versions of config.xml and gbpvr.mdb. mdb, by the way? you haven't moved on to db3? I'm thinking that maybe if you do a clean install of 99.5, it uses db3 by default, and then your mdb file is useless. I'd convert to db3 first if I were you.

Oh, you should also hit "export recordings" in your config tab, so that you can "import recordings" when you are done.

Seconding stefan, these files should be backed up assuming you don't use any other plugins or channel icons. I always like to stop the recording service just incase these files are in use.

config.xml
gbpvr.db3
gbpvr.mdb
recording-dump.xml (this is the file that's created when you click "export recordings" in the config app).

As I saw it he kept the old config.xml and gbpvr.mdb in the gbpvr-dir. So gbpvr-install would treat it as an upgrade, not a fresh install. However I think it would be wise to changedatabase to .db3 (sqlite). Just run the change database.exe.

First, thank you guys for all the insight into doing a (mostly) clean install.

Just wanted to say I mislead everyone though because I meant to do a (mostly) clean install to the latest GBPVR v99.12 not v99.5. Sorry sub in my math book, 99.5 is greater than 99.12.

Anyhow, what I did was what was suggested which was stop all gbpvr.exe's then to copy config.xml, gbpvr.mdb and recording-dump.xml into the newly created gbpvr folder and installed 99.12 there.

Everything worked perfectly except it didn't carry over my few plugins (that's OK though) and my recordings schedule. The recordings schedule was critical to have so I ran changedatabase.exe which was the big issue because it caused me to loose all my recordings pointers, tuner card info, etc. almost like a (totally) clean install.

Oh well... after about an hour of importing recordings and redoing tuner setups, I'm mostly back to where I wanted to be but it wasn't as pretty getting there as I'd hoped.

Thanks again

I'm sorry if I were unclear, but you should have done this *before* upgrading.

Ahhh! my error.

No problem stefan... not blaming anyone... I'm just documenting my experience so others may avoid issues.

Well that can't be true because there really was a release number 99.05 back around Dec 20, 2006.

Oh well... can't nit-pick too much over a free yet excellent program.

That's right 99.05 was dated 22-12-06 (on my system). Last week was the next relaease: 99.12. 99.5(0) is still in subs head or where-ever he get's his inspiration.Wink
