Getting the error: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

Only happens if I stop GB PVR then restart it. Restarting the recording service fixes it.

Using PVR 250, winXP home SP2

Things I've done to troubleshoot:

Uninstall/reinstall video card drivers
Uninstall/reinstall gbpvr
Uninstall/reinstall Antivirus software

From the event log, it looks like netlimiter is the offender, but I don't have it run at startup and it's not running - could it possibly cause problems just because it's installed, even if it's not running?

Also, do you have the install for the MS hotfix in the survival guide? It's not available for download.. I'm trying to get it now, but if you have it, I'll be a guinea pig to see if it resolves this issue.

Thanks a lot, this is the best PVR software I've seen yet!

I saw this one the otherday when I had stopped the recording service (so I could edit a skin) and forgot to restart it.

Is your recording service running?
Core2-E2180, 1G RAM, 1Gb-5450 Silent, 2Tb +300g HDDs.
Three tuners: Twinhan DVB-T x 1, Hauppauge Nova 500T (dual)

DTB Digital SD + HD content (PAL-MPEG2-AC3).
Custom case made very quiet. Zalman CPU cooler.
Sits in rack with other HiFi.

ParaLED to show tuner activity.

Display: 42" 1920x1080p Panasonic Plasma

1x wired MVP
1x PC client

It was..

I finally uninstalled net limiter to see if that helped, and so far it seems to.

Might want to put in the survival guide that the offending programs can cause problems even if they aren't running.

Edit:

Quick thought for the next release...since Live TV seems to require that the recording service is running --
On initiate LiveTV:
Check if the service is running; if it isn't, either:
a.) start it
b.) prompt the user to start it
c.) Catch the error and return a more user friendly message

my $0.02.

Actually, net limiter is explicitly mentioned in the survival guide thread as a possible cause of crashing the recording service.

I can see why you'd ask for this, but to be honest, its better for the user to fix whatever their underlying problem rather than me trying to work around it. Having software on their machine that is crashing the recording service is pretty serious - trying to restart the recording service all the time to work around this is pretty ugly.

That's cool I guess.. I still think it might be useful to at least let the user know that the reason they are getting "target machine actively refused it" is because the required service isn't running.

Also, what I said was that you should put "even if it isn't running" in the survival guide. I was under the assumption that netlimiter would not cause problems if it wasn't running, but apparently it did. I had to completely uninstall it for the problem to go away.

FYI: I got the hotfix from Microsoft and I will be testing it on my machine. I'll let you know if it fixes the problem / causes any other problems.

I agree with this. I don't run any of the offending programs, and after using GB-PVR for several months now, today all of a sudden I get this "target machine actively refused it" message for the first time. Thanks to all the good contributions on this forum, I simply restarted the recording service and now things work fine.

Maybe have the error message say "check the forum"... Big Grin j/k keep up the good work all
