I just got a cheap Conexant Card from CompUSA, but I can't get any drivers for Windows Vista and I will give it to a friend. The card comes with a remote control that is very similar to the Hauppauge Remote (similiar number of buttons that do similar things) but it, of course, goes into the Conexant card and has its own conexant control program. It all seems pretty analogous to the Hauppauge setup, but it isn't.

My question is... can I get it to work with GBPVR and how should I go about doing this? Any ideas?

There is no built in support for it, but if it is an MCE type remote then may work with the remote type set to 'MCE Remote'. Alternatively, like the Hauppauge remote, it might have some text files somewhere that allows you configure which keystrokes are sent to the current app when each button on the remote is pressed, allowing you to configure each GB-PVR key press.

maybe, if I can't find the text files you speak of, I could try some kind of keyboard automation program. If I can't make it control GBPVR directly...

Whatever command is received from the remote could trigger the macro program to input some keystrokes from the keyboard that control GBPVR (like F1 for guide or F2 for Live TV). Does that sound like its got a shot?

Thats how a lot of IR software that comes with these remotes, including the Hauppauge remote.

In the course of trying to find some kind of automation software I dug this up. It's a bit over my head, but it looks like pretty powerful stuff. I see that some other apps support it, perhaps you could work support for it into GBPVR.

It isnt really the sort of thing GB-PVR needs to provide support for. You can already use winlirc with GB-PVR.

I use a winlirc homemade receiver for some remote which came with my tuner card and it works great for the client pc downstairs.

I dont use the Winlirc software (as I have uice which is more powerful) but the receiver is really easy to make as long as you can follow the schematic. (i am not very good at soldering, but still got it to work)

The winlirc device will be fine for GBPVR, just learn all of the buttons, but you may still need something to translate the remote commands received by winlirc into keystrokes for use in GBPVR.

Maybe winlirc will send keystrokes, but I dont think it has that option (it's more a IR code receiver which outputs the result over TCP as a local server)

Thanks. I may have to look into doing that, but right now I'm trying to see if I can find something to take advantage of the receiver that it comes with (without much luck)!

Sorry - I thought it was one of those remotes which plug directly into the card.(in which case the receiver is only an IR diode, and the decoding part is on the tuner board)

Does the card come with any software for the remote? (or does it only control the bundled TV software?)

It comes with a separate IR program like the Hauppauge remote does, but it only seems like that program only delivers the commands directly to the bundled software (except for one that shuts down the computer!). I have tried all kinds of keystroke capturing apps and IR apps, but none of them will register the remote even though they capture the Hauppauge remote's commands.

EDIT: Just to clear things up, it is a remote reciever that goes directly into the TV card. (Little IR Diode)
