File size and Quality

My recordings are running at about 2gb per thirty minute show, and with that type of space i was expecting a pretty good playback. But the show looks pretty shotty for that amount of space. Yes it is watchable, but i think that i am missing something. I am using a diamond USB capture source.

I record everything now at 720x480 using the default high quality settings.
After comskip does it's thing an hour long show comes in just under 2 gbs.

Its probably your video decoder or video renderer making it look shitty during playback.

You could try burning the file to a DVD, then playing in a set top DVD player to see whether file is actually decent quality or not. At least you'll know whether to focus on the recording settings or the playback settings.
