I have my gbpvr setup working just about perfectly except for one issue:

-Some HD channels appear to have a lower frame rate, especially during sporting events.

Now I know it could be a horsepower issue with my machine. But, other channels are just fine in HD, smooth as can be. So I was wondering, and I may be completely off base here, but is it possible the cable company is recompressing or dropping frames on the QAM source? Perhaps to save bandwidth? Perhaps this is a stupid thought but I thought I would throw it up there and see if anyone had any info on this...

I know that some times during high action scenes that hd can get really screwy, looks like slow frame rate, blocky ,and other wise just crappy looking. I know that some Dish/Cable providers do re-compress mess with the resolution and other aspects of the video to save bandwidth, they hope that nobody notices. I remember hearing that some company, I think it was a cable company, had a info status about the signal like resolution and people noticed on some channels 1080i was 1440x1080 or something like that. People started posting about it and in the next system upgrade to the STB's the resolution info was removed from the info thing.
Hope this sheds some light on possible causes

Don't forget that QAM is 38 Mbps (twice broadcast 19.2Mbps) so a PC generally needs to be a bit more "robust". (lots of factors)
