Yesterday I decided to buy a Hauppauge HVR 950. When I opened the box I realized that I didn't get a 950. Windows loaded as a 980 and it looked a little different then what was on the box. GBPVR see's it as a 950. I can't watch or record TV through GBPVR client. I keep getting an error about my EPG not being populated or updated. I have a zap2it account, I have set it up populated it numerous times. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I am at work so I don't have the exact error.

But I can however watch TV through the map digital channels to EPG channels button. (That tiny window that shows scanned channels) I can change the channels and everything. It looks like everything should work. I get sound and everything. Its actually somewhat impressive. (Maybe I am easily amused?) Smile

Basically my question is does the HVR 950/980 work with GBPVR (ATSC wise, I could care less about the analog side) How do I resolve the problem. I understand I may need to provide more information to resolve it but just knowing it will work will at least let me know I am not wasting my time with the program and bugging you guys in the forum.

Thanks for any assistance!

When you did the 'map digital channels to EPG channels' thing, after the scan completed did you click in the 'tuning request' request column of each channel (listed on left of screen) to perform the mapping? and is the 'enabled' checkbox ticked next to each channel?

I vaguely remember that. I am going to have to double check that when I get home. Does that mean there is hope? :p

I'm fairly sure the digital side of this device should work fine with GB-PVR.

Awesome, I can't wait to get home and try it out. How do you like yours? Is the quality good? Do you feel it was worth the money?

I only paid about $60 us for it (after rebate i think). Very worth the money since I am only interested in the OTA digital tv. My system is setup as a server (that has the hvr950 attached) and 3 clients (one of which is connected using wireless g). I have been able to do everything I want except stream LiveTv to the clients, which is not a gbpvr or hvr950 problem, it is a lack of a good mpg mux (besides microsoft's dvr-ms mux which does not work with streaming livetv). I have been happy with the video quality.

I just did it and its working. Thanks for all your help. Its a little choppy. I am not sure why. But I am sure I'll figure that out.

Its mostly caused by either the video decoder you're using, or the channel in question is an HD one and your 5900XT isnt keeping up (nvidia 6600 or higher is the usual requirement for HD).
