Screwed up TV picture on DVB-T

Athlon Dual Core 4200, 1GB, Nvidia 6200 DVI to TV. Nova T-500. Vers 99.12.

Hi,

As a newbie to GB I would appreciate a little assistance with a few points. Most noticeably I am getting corrupted TV pictures. Different channels seem to give different size pictures, one of the worst ones is the history channel, this shows only a picture in a small box in the top left, with the rest of the screen showing a variety of lines etc. Most of the channels fill the screen OK, but others are different sizes and positions. I tried this before on another machine some time ago and had similar results.

Also when hitting pause, it shows the message please wait, timeshifting, and then just locks up the p.c. Have done several clean re-installs to no effect.

I have just moved over from Mediaportal because I could not get the TV server working properly, although standalone operation was great. Sadly I am having similar problems with GB. I have followed the instructions to change the recordings drive etc to a network path, then I set up the client with this info and try and run GB client, it just loads the splash screen for a few seconds, and then shuts down. Again I have tried several installs. Video playback seems OK. I am using Nvidia Pure Video decoders, but have tried others with the same or similar effect.

Also the wiki mentions using a database on the server, I have no idea how to set this up.

Any assistance would be gratefully received.

The corrupted picture problem sounds like the problem I get when using the Nvidia decoder for playback - try pressing F7 to change the aspect ratio. If this doesn't work properly try the Intervideo NonCSS decoder, this works perfectly with my Nova -T's

Must have missed the F7 thing in the documentation, will try it tonight when I get home. Don't normally have a keyboard plugged in, pity it cannot be done from the remote. Seems like the MCE remote is not fully supported yet, will have to try and map the F7 if it works. Its not just the Nvidia decoder though, seems to happen when using default decoder and a few others. I will try and find the Intervideo NonCSS one though and give it a try.

yes, the history channel often transmits shows in a small 4:3 format.

try vmr custom in the config. Others have had this problem with nvidia cards in the past. not 100% sure if this fixes the problem or not tho.

The purevideo decoders should work best.

I have F7 mapped to a spare key (Prev Channel) in the irremote.ini used to configure the remote supplied with the Nova-T 500.

CHNLPREV={f7}

Read the 99.12 survival guide and install any patches that are relevant to your setup (in order to prevent future problems).

No idea on the client problem but probably best not to list too many problems in a single thread.

I have this with Nvidea cards. Their drivers seem to be iffy with VMR and changing aspect ratios..... Somewhere I posted a screendump.... just a mo..

Thanks again to you both for your time and advice. I am using the MCE remote as I could not get the Hauppuage one to work with more that a few keys. I understand that you need extra software installed to make it work correctly. The MCE remote is nicer to use and only a few keys produce odd results. Not too worried for the moment, I can play with that later. More concerned with the locking up and picture problems at the moment. Will have a further play tonight. I did install all the patches, but not cured the lockup thing.

Yeah, thats the nvidia aspect ratio bug then. Work arounds include disabling hardware acceleration in the decoder, or switching to VMR9 Custom, or using an old version of the nvidia drivers.

This bug affects lots of apps, not just GB-PVR.

Fixed:
VMR9 or Overlay works and I can resize the picture with F7, is there anyway of setting fill mode automatically on boot up so I do not have to plug in the keyboard?. Changing the BDA renderer to Microsoft cured the lockup on timeshift. I am a bit undecided as to which remote to use, the MCE is nicer, but has to have a big lump of a receiver stuck on the top of the PC. Hauppauge would be neater, but I assume I would have to run IR.exe to get all the keys to work. Nearly there now, just have to get the server/client thing setup. I managed to get TV listings and menus on the client but cannot connect to TV server, or get video, only sound when trying to play movies off the server drive. I is suggested that you need a database running on the server, but I cannot find any documentation on how to do this. Also not certain if the setup instructions on the wiki apply to 99.12.
