A few issues.

Hi, I tried searching the forums but I didn't really know what to search for, maybe it is best if I try to explain...

Issue One:

I have a GBPVR machine with 2 Avermedia M150 TV tuners both working fine. On Wednesday night I record 3 TV shows in a row that are on the same TV channel, this works fine and all 3 are recorded. The issue is that they are all recorded with the same TV tuner which means that instead of recording the 3 minutes before and after the tv program, the TV show stops early and starts recording the next show. So when I watch the first show, often the end of it is in the start of the second show, and the end of the second show is recorded at the start of the third show. This is a bit of a hassle for example if I want to watch the first show and then realise I have already watched and deleted the second show (so I miss the end). This is also annoying when I want to keep the transcoded file as the end is in another file!

Ideally what I would like to happen is that if the second tuner is available at the time GBPVR needs to start recording the second/third show then use that instead that way the 3 minutes padding will still exist for each recording. The only other option I can think of is that all three shows are recorded as one and then split up later including the 3 minutes of padding which I guess would be a bit of a major to do.

Issue Two:

Often when I play a recording I am unable to skip forward or back at all (using the mouse or the remote). However if I play the file using the play command in the TV Guide (while it is still being recorded) I can skip fine, so that means that something is happening to the file when the recording stops (I am not sure if this is something GBPVR is doing to the mpeg file or if it is something to do with my Avermedia M150 tuner). Also the transcoded XVID file is fine and skip works. Any ideas?

Try setting <PreferAlternatingCaptureSources>true</PreferAlternatingCaptureSources> in config.xml. It'd be pretty close to the behaviour you were hoping for.

try a different video decoder for the second issue....
also, look to see if any mpeg demuxers are being used instead of the default ms one...you can see which one is actually being used if you view the lastgraph.grf with a text viewer ...right up top it shows the actual chain of filters used...
[look for MPEG-2 Splitter or Demultiplexer]
maybe easier, look in the logs.. it also shows the filterchain..

Are there any DIS-advantages in using the PreferAlternatingCaptureSources Option? i.e. I guess the question is why isn't it ALWAYS preferred? Depending on the answer, could it be a config option?

btw, I dunno if this is possible or wanted, but maybe the forums could help contribute to a short "mouse-hover" explanation of some of the options on each Config tab. Yes I know it's on the WIKI... :-)

I think it has to do with the possibility it might interfere with your watching livetv. Although I think there are people (like me) who never use gbpvr-livetv, so for them it would be no problem. For me it's a not a problem as I only have one tuner.:o
Almost bought one a week ago but the local shop didn't have one. A few days later decided to upgrade my cpu first. Went from AMD xp2000 to a AMD xp3000. They are hard to get, because they are the fastest socket A cpu's. But I have the feeling I'll be ok for a few extra years now.
That's the problem with upgrading step by step. You always wonder if it's still worth the investment.

I too have noticed this problem since installing 99.12, it always worked OK with my previous version which was 98.something... Also have even more problems with my MediaMVP.
Apart from these two issues, top product. I've used it for ages, the wife and I just could not go back to a single tuner device.

If I have two tuners, and there are three shows in a row, on the same channel, and you preferalternatetuner, thene during the show crossover of start. ends, and padding, bith tuners will be used.

If I wanted to record another show during that time period, or watch Live TV, then i will have errors.

I prefer to keep all my same channel recording on one tuner, so I have the second tuner available. It makes it neat.

sub has suggested getting yet another tuner. I can't on my PVR (two slots only) and can't justifying another card just for the padding.

The problem of course is losing the padding. ZBack2Back has been doing a very good job fixing that

Unfortuantly, this did not help me.....
I have set pre padding to 3 minutes and post padding to 10 minutes.
I have two PVR500s, therefore 4 TV tuners.
Tonight I recorded the following....
"Psych" on prime from 7:30 t0 8:30. It turned out 62:58 in length. Pre padding only.
"Grey's Anatomy" on TV2 from 8:30 to 9:30. It turned out 59:58 in length. No padding.
"Inside New Zealand" on TV3 from 8:30 to 9:30. It turned out 72:58 in length. (The only one with the correct padding)
"20/20" on TV2 from 9:30 to 10:30. It turned out 69:58 in length. Post padding only.
