BeyondTV works.... GBPVR doesn't.

So I had an old laptop sitting around with a broken screen I decided to turn into a PVR.
Specs are:

Barely above 1.0Ghz Celeron M
256 Ram
Integrated ati 320m (shared ram memory eww)
40gb HD
WinTV PVR USB2
Usb 1.0 ports (lol)

Anyway, Beyond TV works very well with the basic video decoder. Any other software I have tried has stuttering video.

Is there any way for gbpvr to use the same codec that beyondtv uses? In other words, is there a way to get GBPVR to work as well as BeyondTV?

Have you tried recording at a lower bitrate? You might be pushing USB1.0.

I would also make sure the video renderer is set to Overlay Manager on the Playback tab of the config app as this requires less grunt then VMR. Also may be worth trying different video codecs from the same tab.

If all else fails can you borrow a USB2.0 pcmcia card to test with a higher speed interface?

256mb is not really enough. make sure you shut down as many windows services as possible, stick to the default skin (maybe) and be wary about adding any other plugins.

All good advice. Does anyone know of a codec that will work well? Something made for speed and not quality maybe?

Also, would linux maybe be a good choice? It doesn't use as much ram and may be a better solution.

As other have alluded to, have you verified that BeyondTV and GBPVR are recording at the same bitrate? That may be the difference introducing the stutter and have nothing to do with playback. The bitrates in GBPVR are controlled by the settings in direct.ini - BeyondTV I don't know.

gbpvr is windows only
