multiple problems with gbpvr

so to begin i'm using a fairly old comp(amd semp 1.4 512mb geforce 5500 vid) so i'm not expecting anything spectacular. i'm also using a compusa branded tv tuner with the conextant blackbird chip inside. now the problems im using the most recent gbpvr i can find(9.912)

1. when trying to watch live tv error"failed to play back file"
2. since i installed gbpvr no .avi files on my machine will play they crash every player i try(windows, winamp, media player classic)
3. trying to use zap2it returns error "un authorized access" even though i've checked my profile with them multiple times.

i'm not sure what i'm doing wrong i've tried to uninstall/reinstall gb-pvr didn't work, i've tried changing codecs by uninstalling k-lite codec pack(full version) and install cyberlink power dvd 7.3 i've checked the wiki and couldn't find any information that pertained to my situation...oh but i did read the "before you post" information and my log file is included

well scratch the zap2it error off it helps if i spell my screen name correctly. thanks for the antivirus idea i'm running avg free edition and with it off i get the same "failed to play file" error i've also just installed windvd creator for the multiplexer i'm not sure if i need it but now it shows up in the bda checker.

after gbpvr start the timeshift is livetv played as a mpeg2 stream if so i think the rest of my problems would lie in my codecs because the only time i get errors is playing live tv or playing .avi files in any media player

You're using one of those none MPEG Chipset Encoder where the CPU would be used instead.

I thought blackbird was the same chipset as the Hauppauge.

edit: "Blackbird" is a new hardware MPEG2 encoding TV capture card reference design by Conexant.

it sounds like it is hardware.

i don't really know what chipset i'm using its the same card as the one in the photo above but in gbpvr when i set up the card i check the "only show detected cards" button and thats what shows up. i fixed the .avi problem just re registered the codecs associated with .avi playback prob solved

where would the best place be / does anyone know if i indeed have the blackbird chipset in my card. in device manager it shows up as conexant 23880 video capture device. thanks again for the help i think your right on the hardware thing.

i installed the included wintvr program just to see and that program worked out of the box with almost no config

Did you try to explicitly set the video decoder in config and try the different renderers VMR7, VMR9, overlay?

Also you did meet all of the requirements of dx9? If you are on win2k you will also need the latest mdac.

Try setting the video decoder and post your logs once more. It's getting to the point where sub will likely need to look at them to figure out what's up.

Sorry, I dont think this card is compatible.

I'm fairly sure that is just one of the old conexant chipsets commonly used with software encoder cards. It'll detect as a 'blackbird' but lacks the all-important encoder filter. I can see internet sites back as far as five years ago, which is usually a pretty good sign it lacks the encoder hardware.

ok that seems to make sense i've tried the different modes vrm 9,7 and overlay and got the same results. in the wiki it states the cards must have hardware encoding of mpeg2 but how would find out if my card has that capabilities, and if not besides the pvr-150 what are some other cost effective solutions to the issue

If you're in the US, go to Ebay and type in "Emuzed" (this is an NTSC card). I bought one of these MAUI IIIG cards for $23 w/shipping and it works just as well as my PVR150's!

A buddy of mine ran into this erecyler guy at a school auction - what he does is buy pallets of old computers from schools and then parts them out. These particular cards come from a Gateway Media PC. It's an Emuzed MAUI IIIG, a link to the drivers in in the wiki under supported hardware cards.

I don't use this card but it did seem like a good deal if you can find one.
