Why not simply add the location where a person belong as a continent (US, Europe or Asia) and relevant TV/digital-standard in the profile? It is of no need to know exact country as far as it is where a person use GBPVR (or plug-in) that are of interest and not where a person live.

That's not a bad suggestion actually ... for sub.

ubu said he wanted to know how fast to reply :-) so time zone is his thing... although I don't think this is a biggie. Some folks may not know their system though .... for you, you need to go here

NTSC Nations
PAL Nations
SECAM Nations

You might upset a few folks if you leave out some of those other "small" continents though ... especially those pesky Australians :-)

Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, and Australia.

k.

[EDIT]Of course, if blizard choose a different continent model to the normal 7, he'd be in Eurasia or Africa-Eurasia ... ...Same as me!

Really, this is getting more complicated than it needs to be. If people want to enter "Europe" or "Africa" instead of a more specific location, that's up to them. It just not quite as useful.

In the US, for instance, I know that somebody on the East Coast is 3 hours ahead of me so, if I ask them for their log file at 9pm, that's midnight for them, so I'm not going to expect to receive it until the following day.

And timezone isn't my only concern, if you look at my original post. There are other, less obvious reasons why knowing someone's location is helpful.

Anyway, if you check out my location, you'll see it's way past my bedtime so I'm hitting the sack now. Smile

I can't believe I left my location out. I couldn't count the number of times that I've offered detailed advice on video issues on the JP1, VideoReDo, SlingBox, SHSPVR (Hauppauge), and various TV forums, just to find out that I wasted hours because the OP was using PAL, or some other major difference from the US broadcast system that he forgot to mention.

If someone is going to offer help and advice, we need to know if you are dealing with PAL/NTSC/ATSC/Freeview/Sat-ts, etc. A lot of that can be inferred from the posters location.

Thats a decent suggestion, but I must admit like ubu, I also look at country to decide if the person is likely to be asleep or returning for an answer.

OK, so when are you gonna unleash that sarcasm? It would be fun to see... Cool

Of course a geologist or geographer would some how connect NZ to Australia, but I'm sure sub has made the Kiwi a continent all by itself
