I have the GBPVR system up and running with my 150MCE pretty damn well. Very happy thus far and most grateful for all the help here on the forums. A couple more quick things:

Is there a way to control the system entirely with a mouse?

Is there a remote control that can control the system entirely?

Thanks. My USBUIRT arrives wednesday so I am preparing for everything to fall apart soon [Image: smile.gif]

Unfortunately not everything can be done with a mouse.

Everything can be done with the Hauppauge remote (either old silver one, or new 45 button silver remote).

The USB-UIRT is only used as a blaster, not a IR receiver (incase thats what you intend to use it for).

DrKranium, are you asking about the IR Blaster included with the PVR150? If so, it'll be supported in the next release.

When you say 'only a blaster, not a receiver'....I have a directTV box I am hoping to control with it....for that I thought I only needed the blaster...I thought most dtv bozes had receivers built in for their own remotes.  Am I (yet again) on crack?

Yes, you can control the dtv box in the way you describe. GB-PVR will use your USB-UIRT to send fake button presses when it needs to convince your dtv box to change channels.

I was just setting you expectation, in case you were intending to also use the USB-UIRT as an IR receiver, so you could control GB-PVR with a remote.

I have the Microsoft MCE 2005 remote with blaster (actually 2 blasters).
I was trying to set up MCE itself but although I can hack the EPG for use in Portugal with help from TGB, I can't get it to control my STB.

For this reason and others I'm trying out Media Portal and GBPVR.
So far I like GBPVR because it supports TV-OUT on my WinTV PVR 350 Card (on MCE I've been using tv-out on my FX5700, and though I haven't seen it myself I've heard that the 350 will put out a much better picture)

On the other hand, Media Portal supports my MCE remote, though not the blaster.

So, questions:

1. Ideally I want GBPVR to support the blaster that comes with my MCE Remote, and even more ideally I want it to controll the receiver to learn my remote. I'm sure the receiver has a learning circuit - MCE uses it to guess the remote type (incorrectly), but inexplicably doesn't have an option to learn the buttons one by one.
Is this possible. Any chance of GBPVR ever supporting this?
Any chance of this being somehow accessible through plugins?

2. Can I use my MCE remote as a remote

3. Is it true that the PVR 350 tv out will be much better than just about any graphics card (such as my FX5700)
What about the overlay? Can I see overlay at all on the tv-out? Can I use VMR9 or only overlay manager?

Sorry about the list of newbie questions, but the first one is the one I mainly want answered. The MCE remote is very ncie and comes with a blaster and I'm loathe to spring for $75 to buy and ship a USB UIRT.

2. yes
3. the 350s tv out will be far better than a normal graphics card (i use this, its really really really good). overlay is fine. transparent overlay (not sure if it uses vmr9 or anything, might just use the 350 osd drivers, not an expert on these matters).

you probably already know this, but i just want to make sure, that the 350 tv out wont work on anything other than mpeg1/2 and only on NTSC (if you have the NTSC one) or PAL (if you have th pal one). but if youre just going to be using it as a pvr, its perfect. if you want to playback xvids, divx etc, youll have to switch outputs when playing these files.
