MA does have really good subs. But which are better, grinders, hoagies, heros, subs, or Spuckies? Now that I think back, great seafood too. The cold water I guess.

Where will you be in Texas? It's a big place!
There are a few good steak places here, but you should also consider some Texas BBQ.

Steak: Around Austin area.
Austin Land and Cattle
Sullivans
Finn & Porter
Dan McKlusky's
and one national chain, Ruth Chris steakhouse.

For BBQ, this is a heavily disputed area, but my list is:
Coopers in Llano
Blacks BBQ in Lockhart
Salt Lick in Driftwood (bring your own alcohol)
Iron Works Downtown Austin.
County Line Lake Austin

Sorry but I can't let the accusation of being an SUV driver pass without retort ...!

No, it's just a regular estate (station wagon) volvo V70 T5. It has a 70 litre (18.5 US gallon) tank which I think is fairly normal for what in the UK would be described as a large/family/executive car.

Doing the maths will reveal that I in fact only had 4 litres of fuel left in the tank when I filled up, which was cutting it a tad fine.....It's moments like this when you get back into religion :-)

x = insert car/bike make/model here

What the difference between a hedgehog and a x?
A x has pricks on the inside!

Commonly used for SUVs and 4x4 drivers in central London, BMW/Merc drivers anywhere else Smile

I think you will probably end up on the coast. South Padre island or somewhere around there. Personally I like the California or Florida coasts a lot better.

yeah, they pay alot more. actually if you look at gas prices around the world (well in countries that dont have oil as their major export) they are all significantly higher then US prices... kinda makes us look like assholes for complaining about our price increases when the UK is paying double what we do

Austin is about 210 miles from Dallas. I drove it the other weekend. There's a lot to do in the Dallas- Ft. Worth area. Plenty of museums, theme parks, great zoo, etc. Austin is a great place to live but there isn't a lot of places to see. More of a relax at the lake kind of place.

I would try to move any trip to Texas away from the summer months. It gets pretty hot in July and August.

No it's not as bad as AZ, but we might have one week of 100+ temperatures. In Dallas or Austin, it's not as humid. Houston is hot and humid. If you are used to hot weather, it won't be that bad. I personally don't like sitting around on a beach when it's that hot.
