Thanks, I will assume that you are now running 1.1.51 from mediamvpsetup_33_25032.exe successfully.

Note on the link you copied even though it isn't stated both files are "beta", note the "b" in the file name mediamvpsetup_3.2.24125b.exe and in the release notes. The production releases are few and far between.

Yes, in fact the first thing I did when I got my MVP was to mod one of the Internet mods to connect to Shoutcast in order to display the last 10 songs while music streamed. Then I found GBPVR and Shoutcast-based Internet radio was so much more seamless this became irrelevant. I was pretty happy until I found mvpmc and realized I didn't really need a server at all and I added the capability to do Internet radio natively.

The trouble was I missed some of the things that I liked about GBPVR, which lead to emulation mode.

Back to the Internet mod, it actually is quite lacking in comparison to mvpmc's VNC compatibility, since with VNC you aren't stuck with IE as the interface and you can easily switch to GBPVR. The real trouble with either method is browsing 640x480 on a TV with a remote is awful, it might not be as bad on more modern LCD/plasma monitor, but I'm used to 1600x1280.

Even with Virtual PC session optimized for the mvpmc/VNC viewing and Firefox in kiosk mode, I wouldn't try to sell the functionality beyond the "cool factor"

Are you running the shell for MediaMVP using Mvpcm and just have GBPVR used as the DVR recorder?

I'm not sure what you mean, by shell but I will see if I can answer your question. I run mvpmc (obviously) and I typically run in its native mode to access internet radio directly and multimedia files (primarily FLAC now) from NAS drives but sometimes on a shared folders. I do use emulation mode to talk to GBPVR when I'm banished to the computer room to watch sporting events primarily for pausing livetv and I also use it for access to YouTube. I used to use the MediaMVP server software to debug emulation mode but with 99.12 I found GBPVR to be just as stable.

The only reasons I would ever see for using the Hauppauge software would be

- your network is so poor that you need ultra small bandwidth screens.
- you feel quilty not donating to sub
- you have many mpeg-1 or timecode error videos to deal with.

(and actually I would actually choose mvpmc for the above requirements)

The digital cable box servers as the prime PVR because her in Canada we are at the mercy of the cable/satellite providers and there is no real alternative.

MVPMC Alpha Dongle works great with Vista, I would say even better than Hauppauge Dongle
PRO'S: Less crashing time because you start 2 servers, and better volume control
CON'S: No mini-guide, resume doesn't always seem to work.

MediaMVP software to use for playback

Nope, I use mvpmc for playback

Quote:I thought you using the program you have posted in AVS Forum under Replay stuff.
I replied because I got two PM's after you posted the OT message on the replay forum. I've been over there helping some users load mvpmc because it can act as a true client to replaytv and DVArchive, and they both thought your skins were for mvpmc. Loading Replay is a little tougher then with emulation mode because the client time has to be set up too.

Quote:I want to be able to watch my recordings on MediaMVP don't want to have to watch it reboot while watching media or having the remote freeze. One user said he or she gone back to 98.13. I thought about that but then the skins won't work.
Strange from your posts I thought things were perfect. I personally don't think the Hauppauge software is the solution.

And I'm off to the arena to watch my favourite hockey team beat the New Jersey Devils.

tipstir Wrote:Hmm, mvpmc looking into that, but it uses another DHCP program to control MVP clients.

No, and in fact that would not be possible with any software. Perhaps you mean tpcip or udp depending on the server? ie GBPVR requires both.

Quote: As the HAU has that feature with the MediaMVP software already.

I'm totally lost here, you can't compare mvpmc with the MediaMVP software.

Quote:Yes I am using the dongle.bin in with the latest beta from HAU usa. But also re-skinning the skin that comes with the beta but uses the improvements for MCE skin started by another user. I just find that latest beta stable and I can sit and watch all my videos without problem. Wireless bridge MVP no problems.

Sorry I'm not getting this either. It still sounds like you have chosen to use Hauppauge dongle/server to watch your videos.

Quote:Well MVPMC changes the look and feel of default HAU software. GUI can also be changed, I've seen a lot start this
The look and feel is different. mvpmc contains several clients and each it's own GUI When using mvpmc to talk to the Hauppauge server or GBPVR via emulation mode, you will have pretty much the same look and feel as with the Hauppauge dongle.

However if you use mvpmc to talk to ReplayTV, MythTV, Slimserver, VLC or any of the other servers mvpmc supports you can't compare the two and dkinning the Hauppauge server won't have any impact on how these mvpmc clients work.

tipstir Wrote:Okay, you got me then.. You use GBPVR to record then view your media back on the MVPMC software on MediaMVP correct?

For me it's the same except for I use the HAU software for MediaMVP until the problems with:

1. Remote performance
2. Reboots while watching video media goes away

Right now I don't have those issues HAU MediaMVP software... I don't see myself using MVPMC software replacement of the HAU MediaMVP software. Pretty much they do the same task, allow you to playback your recorded or other media, look at pictures, listen to music also internet radio.

Now I understand better, you mistook my personal replies to your questions as recommendations. This is definitely do as I say and not as I do, unless FLAC is a must.

I have no doubt now that if you are using your mvp & gbpvr as a music server primarily as I am then mvpmc is the dongle to go for .

my best run is streaming music using pysicks ml2 plugin is 5 1/2 days continuous playback, in fact the only reason it stopped then was due to patches that required a reboot of windows
